Default GMail Sync and Work Email

Please Login to Remove!

Gmail has the ability to receive, and SEND, email from a 3rd part POP server.

So basically I send and receive email as "DON@fooooo.com" through GMail.

The second diagram sums it up nicely:

Send mail from another address without "on behalf of" - Official Gmail Blog

It all defaults beautifully. Emails sent to my gmail, I hit reply and it's from my Gmail. Mail to fooooo.com, hit reply and it's from and through my foooo.com server.

Problem is, that when I hook my blackberry up to this gmail, that knowledge seems to get lost -- and no matter what I do, if I reply on my blackberry, it's always from my gmail account. VERY annoying.

Does anyone have suggestions or ideas on what I'm missing?

Looking into this a bit further, a perfect work-around would be if I was able to change the "Send Using" on replies -- but I can't seem to do that.

It looks like you used to be able to in old BB versions, but they dropped this.

There was a program called "BBReply" that would let you override this, but it's quite outdated and I'm not sure I want to try it on a newer model.

Any suggestions? I pay for an app if one existed.

Log into your BIS account and change the email address.

Have you done this yet?

Yes - but it's not the "reply to" that I'm trying to change -- this still makes the email appear to be from my Gmail account, not my work account.

Googling this a bit more, I find it is a very common request. I think I understand the business reasons for not implementing this -- it would allow people to have great 2-way sync with a corporate domain email address which might cut into BES sales at the low end.

I did find an App in the App Store that basically allows you to Reply to an email through a different "Send Using", it's called "Forward Reply and Edit", and it's free under Productivity>Productivity. Basically, it creates a new email and stuffs all the senders and text into the new email, so you can then change the "Send Using" (since the BB thinks it's new). It's not perfect - it requires downloading the whole message, so there are download pauses if it's a longer message and you're on a shotty network.

Although it seems to work for me, the reviews seem a bit over the map, and I'm quite worried about being reliant on an app like this from such a small provider (although, the price is really awesome).

It's really too bad such a simple feature is lacking (changing the "Send Using" on replies"), but again, I guess I understand the business implications.
