Default 3rd Party Browsers: First impressions of Bolt and Mini Opera

Please Login to Remove!

In my quest for a faster browsing experience, I've tried out both Bolt and Mini Opera.

My initial observations for Bolt:

1. Love the split screen interface
2. Hate that there's no STOP command to stop loading a page (big turnoff for me -- web access is slow for me in China -- I often need to be able to stop slow load pages)
3. Seems faster than Mini Opera, but I haven't done a measured test yet
4. Font sets are too small -- even the XXLarge font ones -- and don't render smoothly
5. Cooler logo than Mini Opera

My initial observations for Mini Opera:

1. Commands and menus less cluttered, feels more "professional"
2. Small font is much too small. Medium font is kind of too big. Needs a font in between these two.

At the moment, I'm torn between the two, they both are more feature laden than the stock Bold Browser with superior navigation. They both are faster, too.

Until Bolt can add a STOP loading button, I think I'll be using MO as my daily browser. For non-mobile optimized websites, Bolt has some advantages with its split screen feature (that makes it easier to view "standard" pages), so I'll keep it in my Apps list.

There is a new version of Bolt coming out soon for the Curve that is very fast-the cursor and text entry slowness are fixed. Hopefully they release it soon! It also cancels loading with the escape key.

Good. I installed it, then uninstalled it less than 20 minutes later because it was unbearably slow.
