please help, my bb pearl has frozen with the message uncaught exception: java.lang.ClassCast?

This an application error and unless you loaded an app before it started and cannot clear it with a battery pull and reset, the OS may be corrupt. You did not state the OS version but if it's old try an upgrade. If you do, do not load any apps that you suspect may have caused this issue.


Also reply with the function you were doing just before this happned. The 8100 has multiple causes for this error besides a corrupt application.

I also have the same error and I have not added any applications ever other than software updates from blackberry. I can't see the texts I am receiving or sending. Have tried taking battery out 15 times and have taken it to T-mobile and they have never seen it before. Any advice would be much appreciated.....Please and Thank you!

I haven't added any apps in about two months. All of a sudden I am getting the uncaught exception java.lang.classcastexception error message. The strange thing is I am only getting it when I try to access Wikipedia online. I can visit any other site as far as I can tell, but all of a sudden I get the error message only when I try accessing Wikipedia.

I am having this exact same problem, only with Wikipedia as well. Any advice out there?

I haven't added any apps either and am having the exact same problem, can access everything but wikipedia or the error msg pops up... any ideas?

I don't know if you've already found a fix, but I wanted to post on this thread because this was driving me crazy for a few months now. I hadn't done anything- new apps, updates, etc. that would have caused the error. Nothing in terms of resetting or wiping the phone helped. And really most of my web browsing was for stuff on Wikipedia, so that really hampered me.

What I did, which fixed it instantly, was go to all my icons and make sure they weren't 'hidden'. I did realize that I had hidden several in order to clean up the screen, and that apparently was what disallowed browsing on wikipedia.

As soon as I allowed all the icons to be visible, I was again able to open any wikipedia page. Hope this helps.

I have gotten the uncaught exception error also but it does not freeze up the phone, but when making a call the speaker phone option will not work and in menus I have to scroll as typing a letter does not work.

I found a way to fix it without rebooting by opening the BB native browser and clearing at least part of the memory (I can leave history) this resolves the problem and then both the speaker phone works and typing a letter in a menu works.

I have a Curve but I was having this problem as well and only on Wikipedia. I fixed it but I freely admit it doesn't make much sense how I did it. I hope this helps someone:

Here is what worked:

1.) I checked BB help and they said to check your Browser Configuration in Options and make sure "Support Java Script is enabled" is checked. Then close and reopen the browser. I did this. No dice.
2.) I shutdown and restarted my BB. Still not working
3.) In Advanced Options-->Browser, I changed from BB browser to Internet Browser. Now I can get to Wikipedia.
4.) I switched back to BB browser in Advanced Options to confirm that this fixed it and now I can get to Wikipedia with the original browser setting. I am too exhausted with fiddling with this thing and Googling to ponder why this sequence worked.

BB Help also says if you use BES you need at least 4.0 Server version.
