Default Admin Quit - Used His Own Account for Setup - Need to Switch to Domain User

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

Our former BES admin did the setup on the box using his own account, which of course is a big no-no. I'm now the admin, but I haven't actually installed a BES from scratch before so I'm unsure of all of the places where his account needs to be changed to a domain user. We disabled his account when he left and devices stopped communicating with our BES so I know BES is actively using his account to function. Is it his e-mail address? His network account? Or both? Of course I've tried looking through the GroupWise + BES setup guides, but it's still not clear to me where I should make changes at this point.

It's a 4.1 BES working with Novell Netware/GroupWise.

I think you'll need both of these. Follow the steps in kb02276 first and you should be ok

If he set the BES up with his own account, then the services are running on those same credentials. If you look at the BlackBerry Services Properties, what username/password are they using?

The services piece is actually unaffected by my current problem. When he left I changed the admin password for Windows and also had to update the password for all of the services so that part is done. The problem now is that his individual user account/e-mail on our network is somehow tied into the functioning of our BES. I know this is the case because if I disable his Netware/GroupWise account our BES stops working. His account is providing a pathway to GroupWise or our network at some point, but I'm just not sure where since I inherited this box, but wasn't the one who set it up. I'll take a look at those links above. Thanks for posting.

If you go into the Blackberry Server Configuration, click on the Groupwise Settings tab, see if his email account is set up as the Admin User.

I just figured that out this afternoon. Thanks for the post. I'm going to make a full backup of the box before I start changing things and will report back once I'm done.

I would suggest calling support at RIM as this can be a precarious change. They should be able to walk you through it easily but too much is at stake to take this on IMO.
