Default Curve Pearl + Keyboard backlit?

Please Login to Remove!

I picked up my Curve a couple hours ago, and my friend pointed out that the pearl on it was not lit up at all, and the keyboard seems to not be lighting up either. On the 8300 are the pearl and keyboard just not backlit, or is it something with mine possibly?

Both appear backlit on mine. Check to make sure you are in a dark area if you have the auto-sense feature turned on. I stuck it under the desk and it lit up.

Is there a way (menu setting in the OS) or add-on application that allows the keyboard and/or pearl to be lit brightly anytime the screen is lit, or a key is pressed? I'm not a big fan of auto-dimming so can it be set to have the screen/pearl/keyboard all be on the brightest setting anytime a key is pressed?

I don't think so. It controls it according to the ambient light via a sensor located under the LED. If you cover the indicator with your finger it should light up.

Even when you cover the LED Indicator with you finger? You might have a problem with your unit.

Go into Option - Screen/Keyboard

And turn automatic Backlight to OFF Screen and keyboard should always come on.

If it still won't turn on. Pull the battery. My 8100 used to get confused.

Yours is probably OK.

I have two and they both have very low levels of back lighting (if any) during the day. Then I have over 100 BB's in my company and we have not had a single backlight failure.

This situation that you are experiencing is normal because it has an Automatic Backlight Feature that senses ambient light and if it's enough then the backlight will not come on. Even the finger over the sensor is not a reliable test.

1) From the start screen, go to Options
2) From Options, choose Screen/Keyboard
3) Click on Screen/Keyboard and look down the list, find "Automatic Backlight" on the right side it will say "ON"
Click that and turn it to "OFF"
4) Save your changes and then you will have full backlighting all the time.

You will also notice that there is also a choice there to adjust Backlight Brightness. You will have the ability to adjust it to whatever level you prefer.

Since all my BB's have such great battery life, I just set mine to 100% and enjoy the big bright colorful display.

Cheers....
