Default bar code use on torch?

Please Login to Remove!

Hey all, New to the BB torch, So far I think its a great phone!

Today I tried to scan a barcode for a monster energy theme from this site:

(won't let me post the site till i reach 15 post count ) lol

on my phone i went to bbm/invite friend/scan barcode

after I scanned it did add anyone or anything. just made the sound for the scanning completiong and thats it.

Can anything bad happen from scanning barcodes? can people get my info off my phone? or download things...im not exactly sure how the whole barcode system works.

also my last question with reguards to the barcoding, When scaning products do you go bbm/invite contact/by pin or scan or is there other ways to acces the scanner?

thanks for your help! chris.

When you scan a barcode to download an application or a theme or to open website, after you scan the barcode, your BlackBerry Browser should open to the particular page for the download or the website.

Do you have a BlackBerry Data Plan from your carrier?
Is the code that you scanned compatible with your device and your device OS version?

No one can "get [your] info off [your] phone" when you scan a barcode.

There are applications that will scan barcodes. But usually the scanner in BBM works for installing apps and opening websites.

If it's a QR scanner it wont scan bar codes. Two different applications. Some of the Apps on AppWorld are one or the other. Check.
