Default Blackberry Bold Beta Running 4.3

Please Login to Remove!

I have recently obtained an early bata of the Blackberry bold. the installed firmware on it is 4.3 and it handles just like the curve, looks exactly like 4.3 but with a few tweeks. For one the wi-fi brower looks awesome ( i wish they had come out with it) and the media menus are black but have the save icons like the 4.5 on a curve. The body is also different, the high gloss bezel is more matte, is unbranded and some of the things that are printed on with ink on my Rogers bold are engraved in this beta bold. However I was wondering if the software running right now v4.3.2.5 (platform 4.0.0.17) can be upgraded to the normal looking 4.6 like on my good bold with the precision theme and everything. tnx

Sure, it should be able to upgrade. Why not.

Try JL CMDR to wipe the OS completely! It may simply be the "vendor / product ID" in a unit that early may not match what is needed for 4.6

If it is that early a "bata" device (oops, was ok?), then you likely won't be able to do so then. Does it even have a PIN assigned to the device?

I love it when users here tell another user what not to answer.

I will try to contain any Smart-A$$ comments. It is a very early Alpha / Beta (Stolen Phone), you are most likely not going to be able to update it to 4.6 and on top of that I am sure the PIN is invalid.

Yea its a really really old beta, the "about" menu says 2007 and on startup the phone says "Property of RIM" Its clearly a stolen phone someone must have stolen it from either the assembly line or something because it really is beta, i just got it from my friend to try and fix it by upgrading it to 4.6 as it is not running the weird blend of 4.3. The vendor ID is 1 and the pin is probably invalid but it does have one. Do you think that if i do a wipe that i won't be able to install anything on it , even this crappy beta 4.3 OS?

Only option is to try. Even with a PIN it will be blocked.

So if i do a wipe completely, will that make the phone forget that it is a beta and let me install the newest 4.6 because the vendor ID is 1 so that means its a seed unit right, does the vendor ID get affected at all by the wipe?

There is an underling firmware it will always be a banned pre release device and traceable when placed on a mobile network.

I don't think it does... there is still some firmware on the device, which I don't believe a wipe will clear.

Another smarter than I may tell you different.

SO i did a wipe and im getting the classic 507 error on startup which i thought would be great news but i am unable to install any OS on the phone, could the problem be that i am using desktop manager 4.6?

DM is backwards compatible. That would not be an issue. RIM is very smart with their pre release devices.

Some people have this problem with the new Desktop Manager 4.5 and 4.6, Instead of using 4.5-4.6 desktop manager.

When you install the updated files look in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and find loader.exe - Run that, this is the old school loader program that will force a backup and restore and install.
