Red face Configuring BES Alert

Please Login to Remove!

Hello all,
I'm new to this forum, but not new the Windows, BES, Exchange, troubles et. al.

I am running Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 and Exchange Server 2003 SP2 (native mode). The BES is v4.1.4 mr4 on Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2. I am trying to configure BES Alerts. After I get it all set up I am being told by the smtp server that:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: BlackBerry Alert
Event Category: None
Event ID: 10000
Date: 10/28/2008
Time: 1:43:45 PM
User: N/A
Computer: MyBESServer
Description:
DoSMTPCommand: Response was: 553 5.5.4 <besadminaccount>... Domain name required for sender address besadminaccount

I have tried both our internal exchange smtp server and our site's main smtp server (a UNIX box). Both give the same response. It seems that, even though the full SMTP address was configured "besadminaccount@myworkplace.com", only the besadminaccount is being sent to the smtp server.

I have been unable to find anything that helps resolve this. Anyone have any ideas, tricks or C4?

Thanks,
Tim.

Does either smtp server require a password to send mail?

Not sure if exchange has/had the same bug the domino version of bes did. But the alert service was broken from 4.1 till 4.1.5 or 6 (one of those two) the smtp email wouldnt get out because the bes server would strip everything after @ out so if you used [email address] it stripped off the jasjd.moc.

Upgrade to 4.1.5 or 4.1.6

Well that would explain why my BES alert service never worked until I upgraded!

Stripping everything from "@" to the end is exactly what's happening. I have SP6 waiting in the wings. I'm scheduling down time to install it. I'll wait until that's done then.

Thanks very much Sagz.
