Default Changing provider - Bell to Fido

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,

I'm looking at changing my Canadian provider from Bell to Fido. My concern is of course will I loose my Bell Blackberry E-mail account ?

Now there's a little twist to this. One option I have is to give my current BB to my girlfriend, whose is currently with Bell and I get another phone for the Fido network.

If she takes over my BB with her plan, can she continue to use my Bell E-mail account ?

Is the E-mail tied to the phone number, Cell phone provider or to the BB device ?

Could I have set up my BB E-mail account on a non-specific provider Server like BES ???

On a different note ... My BB 9800 Torch is unlocked. From what I understand I can use this device on the Fido network ... right ?

The blackberry E-mail account is on bell.blackberry.net

Thanks,
Mario

1. You will lose your account.
2. Yes.
3. It's tied to the provider.
4. You should never use the e-mail address provided by your provider. Always use one from Gmail, Hotmail, or the like.
5. Yes, however, it may not work on 3G.

Thanks dc/dc.

Just to clarify your #2 reply. So if my girlfirend uses my Bell phone on her Bell plan, she could continue to use my Bell BB E-mail account ?

I'm currently on a 3G network with Bell. You mentioned that it might not work on 3G ... were you referring to the Bell or Fido network ? I think the Fido network is also 3G.

1. Correct, but she shouldn't, and you should migrate away from your Bell BB account as soon as possible.

2. Fido does use Rogers 3G network, but not all devices can use it. Sometimes there are band differences between devices. It should work coming from Bell, but it's not a guarantee.
