Default hard drive wipe?

Please Login to Remove!

i just got off the phone with a verizon wireless csr and it had to be one of the most terrible experiences...anyway, that is a topic for another post lol...my question is that the csr told me that holding the power button and pulling the battery will wipe the phone and all of it's contents (i.e. contacts, pictures, esentially he made it sound like everything, third party software included). is this true? has anyone ever heard of or tried this? i've been on the forums for more than a year and never heard anything about it, not to mention a couple of quick searches netted no results. any idea?

yes actually my issue is that i cannot dial a specific number. just one number. all others go through with no issue. the person can call me and we can send/receive texts, just i cannot make a voice call to the person. so i thought i would try verizon.

ever since the alltel switch to verizon i have had nothing but trouble and i'm sure this has something to do with it. i guess i'm going to have to go into a verizon store and get their hardware to fix all of my issues. although i haven't done a software update on my bb since the switch and i'm unsure as to the effects this will have on my device. i haven't been on the forums in a little bit so i haven't caught too much of the backlash regarding the alltel/verizon switch, but so far my experience has not been to good...

Odd that it is just one phone number you can't dial but can SMS. Can't see that it is your phone however if you call anyone else. I assume that you have done the battery pull trick?

Very strange. Let us know how it is resolved.

sure i am very familiar with my bb...i have done the following...

battery pull (not with the power button held in lol )
resent service books
reregistered bis
verizon's ota network update
and also used softreset a few times and pulled battery in between each step

so, i've done a few things and yet i remain puzzled.

a error message does come up when i dial, it says:

"your call cannot be completed as dialed. please call your service provider for repair"

i guess it is still possible the problem could exist on the other users end, after all they do have an iphone which can be an unreliable device on occasion, the person is just a little technically challenged so i thought i would try everything on my end first.

Wirelessly posted (overwhelmingly stressed)

I'd wager to say it is an issue with the transition from alltel to vzw

i would wager to agree with you...i'll try a software update tonight and see if that doesn't fix the issue...otherwise i'll head to a vzw concrete location and get a new bb...

oh btw, your avatar made me think of this...

Maybe so, but just one number makes me think it the person you are calling has your number blocked. Is that possible?

no it's my girlfriend...lol...so she definitely doesn't...

unless she is playing a mean mean trick on me, however there has been one new development. i listened to the message all the way through, hoping that there would be an error message code which is common at the end of certain telephone related error messages. when the message finished the call rang through and she answered the phone with no issue, so i am really baffled needless to say...

it has done that twice now...really odd...

so at least i can call her, but the "call cannot be completed..." error message is still really puzzling...

i'm still going to try system software update tonight...

*ALSO* can we confirm that the power button in conjunction with a battery pull is definitely fake? that was my original question...lol...

Was this message heard over the air (ie listening after you made the call) or was it shown on the display of the phone.

If the message was heard over the air the problems is network related and not with your blackberry. I would go back to your carrier and advise that the issue is network related. (The blackberry would not have an intercept message).

Glad that it has resolved itself, it definitely sounds like a carrier issue.
