I like your nesting ideas, as posted in post 63.
Seems like it makes a lot of sense.

I think I've stumbled onto an explanation of why sometimes the profiles menu is up when it shouldn't be. That is, it's the same as if you clicked on the Profiles icon and didn't choose a profile... like it's waiting for you to press the enter key or click the trackball.
First, we know that the application currently can't switch profiles while holstered, and instead it plays a tone and vibes so that when you unholster/unlock the device, the app will come active and use keystroke injection to change the profile.
Well, I use my device as my watch; and often check the time by pulling it out of the holster and then sticking it right back in afterwards. At the time of a scheduled rule change, I got my tone and vibrate but I didn't want to pull it out then and there to let the rule change the profile, so I forgot about it. Later on, I went to check the time, made a note of it and as I was starting to put the device back into the holster, noticed that the rule was starting to kick in and do a profile change to the profile that was scheduled to be active a half hour ago (that I never got around to letting it do). But although I noticed the popup screen starting to come up for the app doing the rule change, habit took over and I had it holstered before I realized it.
When I pulled the device back out, it was stopped in mid-stream; half completed in making the profile change; and it didn't continue. I just clicked the trackball to finish it off.
So I did a bit of playing around with it, and I can duplicate it somewhat consistently if I time it just right (or, time it just wrong, depending on how you look at it). Again, this would only occur after a scheduled rule change while holstered -- if you unholster it and holster it again before the Profile Scheduler has finished doing it's thing.
I don't consider this to be a bug, but I am posting this as a possible explanation to others of what might be experienced. As a side note but related, I have 3 holsters: an Otterbox 1933, an OEM holster, and a nice Milante Abrutti (sp?) holster. However, the Milante holster does not have it's sleep magnets in the exact right place and I can see the screen turning on and off while it's still holstered. So I never use that holster any more, but I can see it causing all sorts of problems with apps that use keystroke injection throughout the normal course of a day.

After that, if it's still not working, double check those permissions again.
Take a look in
Options > Advanced Options > Applications > BBProfiles > Menu Key > Edit Permissions > Interactions > Menu Key > Expand
Ensure all sub Interactions settings are "Allow".
If that is all good, open the Profile Scheduler using the icon. If a rule is listed as active, click the menu key, click "Deactivate Scheduler", then click the "Activate Scheduler" button. You should nearly instantaneously see a profile change occur.
Let me know what happens.

Hi Matthew,
Thanks for the response. I followed your steps word for word, every permission is set to allow, and when I deactivated and then reactivated....it said activating profile....done. But, the profile never switched...just the profile selection window popped up and stayed up. I have left the keyboard unlocked through numerous attempts and I don't ever holster (don't even have one).
Let me know if you need me to test something else. Thanks for the assistance.
Cheers,
Fielding

Hi Fielding,
This is very, very odd and I'm not sure that I have an explanation for you. Are you on a BES? The only thing I can think of there is that there's some other interaction going on that might be "stealing" the keystrokes that I'm trying to inject.
Sorry this isn't working for you.
I'm about to release a new version (later today). Maybe you can try that.
Sincerely,
Matthew Wheaton

Hi Matthew,
I know, seems strange. I am not on BES and I don't have very many programs loaded on my 8800 either. I have Pocket Day & Lists, opera mini, google maps, blackberry maps, verino timer and clock. I also have info space findit and cryptomagic. Thats about it for programs.
Let me know if you think any of them are the culprit. Otherwise, I am traveling today but will give your next release a shot and see if I luck out and it fixes it.
Thanks for the help, looking forward to the next release.

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but...
Has there been any updates to this application in the past 2 months?
Particularly, I do not like the fact that the Blackberry has to be unholstered and unlocked for it to change profiles.
I have read through the thread and I am not sure on this... is there an option to turn off the (audible/vibrate/on-screen) confirmations that the profile has been changed?
Thanks.

My understanding was that there is an inherent problem with the blackberry not being able to "auto script" or something like that, while in the holster.
If you watch your blackberry while it's changing profiles, it goes through a series of steps, almost as if the user were controling it. This script feature won't work, while in hibernate mode... period. No work around.
I am, however, disappointed that other updates, such s setting a default profile, and a few other features the author said would be implemented, never were.
Not sure where he is, or what happened.

I apologize to everyone. I'm going through a lot of serious family problems preventing me from working on this project. I'm hoping to get back to it soon.

Hi, I'm sorry to hear that...
I downloaded the application yesterday, but am getting stuck with the "allow keystroke injections" problem. I'm on BES, and I am a BES administrator on our server. Can you send me detailed instructions on how to get this to work? Thanks.
I also posted about this in the BES Admin Corner Forum.

I am still unclear on somthing even after scanning this thread. I just tested this out, and when the rule that i set call it "office" and was set to vib, when the rule ended it did not come out of vib. it did go in to vibe however. So if this is what the 24 hour rule would be for, i am all for that. I really dont want to have to make a rule for all the time in between when i am actually making an exception. I would also like to see the ability to set the holstered/ key lock notification made so the user can choose none/ or vib only. Sometime you dont ever want to hear a tone from the device.

Although I still look forward to the nesting schedules, I'm extremely happy with the application as is. Admittedly, I realize that I'm happier than most might be because:
- I don't lock the device (keyboard lock or password lock)
- I am not on BES
- I removed the magnet from my holster
While the wisdom of not keeping the device locked is a debate unto itself, and those on BES usually have no choice in the matter; the magnet removal from my $50 Otterbox was something I hesitated at but have absolutely no regrets doing. I set my profile notifications without consideration to having the device holstered (i.e. I set unholstered and holstered notifications the same), set my backlight timer to 20 seconds -- and probably the only thing I remotely miss is having the backlight light up when I remove my phone from my holster. So I have to press a button to get it to light up. Conversely, I have not touched any of the schedules for two months. It's truly Set and Forget: 24/7. Five schedules covers it all for me; weekdays and weekends.
I couldn't be happier.

Have the bugs been worked out of this progam? Will it work on the curve 8310 with OS 4.2 or 4.3?

This app is almost there but missing some key functionality:
- Ability to control more than just the sounds. You also need the ability to control the mobile network on/off and bluetooth on/off for example
- Ability to override the scheduled profile settings with another profile for a fixed period of time or permanently. Also, the ability to cancel the override and return to the defaulted profile for the current scheduled time. Lastly the ability to update the override to a new amount of time.
For example, if you have a day profile that automatically gets sets, but you go to a movie and want to silence your sounds for say 2 hours, it would be great to be able to hot key to a profile override screen and set the override profile and amount of time. Or if you go on a plane, to override to a plane profile which shuts off the mobile network for a period of time or until you cancel the override.

Those features would really go beyond the intended purpose for the application. As it exists, you can manually override the profile. If your profile is "Normal", and you need silence for two hours for a movie, hit "F" from the home screen, select silent or vibrate, and you're set.

Having problems installing that app. The file I am trying to 'install' (Using Application Loader, Blackberry Desktop Manager v 4.2.2.14) states "No additional application designed for your device were found". Am I incorrectly installing this or is it not compatable with BB 8310 Curve?

couple of questions.
Looks like a good app but I have a couple of questions (8830 with bes)
1. To download ota you need to go to bbprofilesota.wheatoncs.com just going to bbprofiles.wheatoncs.com gives an error.
2. None of the buttons work when you click them, instead you have to go to options and then choose the button such as activate scheduler, add new rule, save
3. Can it only support the default profiles (it looks like it) - is the feature of other profiles going to be available soon?
4. Another vote for the app to work when holstered (if possible) or when locked. As I leave my phone on charge at night it auto locks and from what I understand the previous profile is still active until unlocked which means my loud profile is going to stay on all night as i'll be asleep when it should change to silent mode at 11pm which defeats the point of this application. I did find that when locked I didn't get any notification that there was meant to be a change to be acknowledged so it stayed in the previous setting even though I unlocked the device.
5. If registered is the licence per device or per user. My company has a habit of changing phones regularly and I don't want to have to buy the app each time I get a new phone.
