Default Questions about warranty replacement.

Please Login to Remove!

I recently called Alltel to get a warranty replacement for my 8130...due to the trackball/keyboard failing to light up at random times, and due to the phone hard resetting itself randomly...but only a few times a week.

Anyways...they shipped out the replacement today and it should be here Monday, and then I have to ship back my 8130. I noticed that the tb/kb light is coming on normally again, and it hasn't reset on me in the last 2-3 days. Basically there doesn't seem to be anything wrong.

Should I go ahead and still send it back? After I wipe the phone, should I go back to the most recent Alltel OS instead of the 4.5OS?

I really don't want them to send me an angry letter when they receive my 8130 and nothing is wrong. The replacement fee is $499.99 if they don't get theirs back, or don't get mine after I get theirs!!!

You won't get an angry letter from them. Just give it a day and decide with one you want to keep.

Crap, I just realized I would have to buy a new license for BeeJiveIM. Should have paid the extra few bucks and got the other license. :(

I'll definitely get the better license this time around. Small price to pay for a great program that has served me well.

Received the new 8130 today...upgraded it to the most recent OS, restored all my stuff...works perfect. I forgot the trackball was white, haha. Mine was dark yellow...almost brown.

I'm still a bit worried that Alltel will complain if they can't find anything wrong with my phone. I filled out the notes section on the return form to let them know that the kb/ball light not coming on and reset problem were not a constant problem, only happened several times a week.

Defective HW is returned to companies all the time that the companies, upon receipt of it, can't find any problem with. It's referred to as NTF (no trouble found) returns by some companies. Common occurrence. Sometimes it's the customer's error and they device really is fine, sometimes the customer's use-case just isn't standard enough for the company to replicate in-house, and sometimes the issue is sporadic enough that it doesn't appear in the limited testing the companies can afford to do.

So not unusual, and they shouldn't call you up and yell at you unless they warned you in advance in some way...dealing with this issue is just part of doing business.
