Default gps and maps

Please Login to Remove!

hi ive recently purchased a blackberry 8900 on o2 uk contract with the blackberry services i am very new to this technology and therefore need some help. I believe the phone has a gps built in and the maps feature is great my question to you is, is there some way of installing a satnav that gives voice directions onto the phone? eg, turn left hear turn right hear and redirects your route? preferably a free app? similar to how a tomtom would work this question may have been asked so sorry to repeat myself
thanks in advance

Check the sticky at the top of the GPS section. There is a review of most of the map applications for the BB. Very few give voice directions and turn by turn.

Another app which you can purchase is Garmin for the BB. Not sure of the cost or how good it is, but there shoudl be a review in the sticky.

If you decide to go with one, do a search and se what others say about it.

The 8900 has a GPS receiver. However, unless you can navigate with just latitude and longitude you need a GPS app. The app provides all other features (maps, POI's, directions, voice prompts, etc etc). This is how it is for every GPS-equipped model of BB.

Some apps are free, some are not. There's a very full list of options at the top of this forum. Definitely read up but you'll be best served by trying several apps out first hand to determine which suits you best.

The actual GPS is always free (except when you are on Verizon ). The expensive part are always the maps because they are digital material that needs to be prepared for mobile devices...

So the GPS application already in the blackberry is free to use....but you need to buy apps for it to work better--is this correct?
