Already used by the military, industrical, medical, communications. It has been arround since 1982. My first exposure to the OS came in 1987. Most of the features for which one would choose to use QNX as the OS are not available to a third party developer.
You said that you weren't ever to be granted certain permissions. POSIX related?

And ya, I know the floppy disk legend.

Such unadorned negativity on this forum.

QNX is a winner one way or another.

BTW, 15+ hours out of my Z10 under moderate use. 2hours of phone calls included (speaker phone).

You claim to be familiar with QNX. If you are you know that in order to take full advantage of the real time capabilities of the OS you need to be able to write services and set task priorities. The OS only allows root to start services. Third party developers do not, and for very good reason will never, get root access. This is not QNX hapering a developer, this is BlackBerry very wisely controlling who can wield that power. But without access to that power QNX looks like any other POSIX OS, which is a good thing for developers. The benifits to developers and users indirectly. The BB10 UI is able to provide a stable 60 FPS UI because the people who wrote the UI have access to the real time features of the OS. That lets developers write, and users enjoy the smooth operation even when heavily loaded.

I am not negative about the OS. I think it is the best choice for a mobile computing platform. But it doesn't mean squat to the user. All the other major mobile phone OSs can provide multitasking and can be very stable even when running buggy third party applications.

Oh, and speaking of negativity, I'm not the one who called the majority of PlayBook and/or Z10 owners idiots (see the title of your thread).

Such paranoia and negativity on this forum. This really is bit of a downer site.

I enjoy my BlackBerry devices, don't work for BB and don't even own shares.

BTW, with light to moderate use yesterday, my Z10 went 18 hours and had 55% charge left when I plugged it in for the night. I'm also growing to love the "idiot button".

So you are just a fanboy. Good.
This isn't a downer site - just a realistic one.

If you want a site where you can share your wonderful experiences with other who feel that the ZX10 is mind blowing, try CrackBerry.com | The #1 Site for BlackBerry Users (and Abusers!) - they are all kool aided up over there.

No. This is a bit of a downer site.

BTW, my Z10 has not frozen or crashed since it first booted up 7 days ago. I'm sure that there's something negative to be gleaned from that.

That's excellent.

BBF is still not a downer site, and the original topic of this thread is still complete nonsense and non-factual.

I am thrilled that you enjoy your Z10.
May I strongly urge you to consider finding a site with more like minded people?
Strongly urged.

Sure. This is not a downer site as the volume of traffic clearly attests.

The top button puts the device into "standby" mode similar to selecting "standby" on the PlayBook complete with swipe to on. Complaints of boot time have largely disappeared. Nice job BB.

You don't read well, do you?

I read just fine. A big complaint upon initial release of the PlayBook was boot time because idiot reviewers had to press a stupid button which, in the case of the PB, shut it down leading to wide spread complaints of boot times. Those idiots panned the device because they apparently couldn't appreciate the fact that all one had to do was swipe into standby mode. The "idiot button" appears to have almost completely squelched boot time whining. Nice job BB I write again.

Agreed. BlackBerry is not the only one to have a "standby" (or as the OP calls it, an idiot) button. iPhones have a standby button, Android devices do, every touchscreen device I have used has one. They all work the same, short press puts it into standby mode, long press powers it down. This isn't some innovation that BlackBerry just came up with...

I'd hate to think that some of you are trying to be obtuse. The idiot reviewers, so ingrained to pushing a button to place their device into standby, were shutting the PlayBook down which led to many complaints of slow boot times. They did not know that standby was merely a swipe away. Couple this with fact that the PlayBook never needs to be shut down as per design (in day to day use) and throw in a vestigial power button that rarely needs to be used and you end up with a litany of complaints based upon user error and/or ignorance.

Please cease using the word idiot unless you are referring to yourself.
