Default Using WiFi...what am I missing?

Please Login to Remove!

My wife got a new 9700 last week and I just tied to set up wifi on our home network but have not figured out how to do so after an hour of searching and hunting.

When I scan for networks and find the one I want, it says that the particular router supports "Wifi protected setup" and generates some PIN number that it wants me to enter into the router. I've never seen this before. With every other laptop and device I use at home when I go through this process it asks me to enter in my network password (WPA2-Personal) and voila, I am connected in about two seconds.

I don't know what the "trick" is with these blackberries but do they ever test these devices for usability before they ship them? It's a joke I've had to spend more than 30 seconds on this.

You shud be able to cancel out of that.
so it will allow you to enter the wpa code.

Check the WiFi section of the FAQ. Might be something there to help as well.

I had no problem setting mine up. Maybe your router and or your particular set up is the problem and not the BB?

I've not seen that prompt. Neither on 8820 or the 9700.

What about, instead of scanning, you manually setup and enter network name and code?

This has been mentioned before, the whole "please enter this PIN in the router".
I believe it may be a certain router that causes the issue.

Ahh. Interesting. And peculiar that the blackberry prompts for it while other devices have not, at least in the OP's experience.

I have it setup on my home connection and don't remember that being a problem at all. But it seems every time I'm in a hotspot and try to connect, I'm getting the same message the OP reported.

I got that message even with my home router I think. I ended up just entering the info manually. No other smartphone I've tried to connect had this issue.

You dont even have to enter it manually, you can skip the message about setting up pin in router and just enter the password of your router and it will connect. Did it just today actually
