My 9700 Bold acts as though the battery needs charged and switches off. it will not re-start from the key pad, but requires the battery to be disconnected and then re-connected. It immediately boots into life. Is this a battery problem or a fault with the phone? This happens at least once a day sometimes twice.

It could be either one. Have you dropped the phone or gotten it wet?

Have you let the battery run down past 20% on a regular basis? That can damage th battery.
