Waiting also for comments about SP5a
Hello Djbeenie,
now i'm running 2 BES 4.0 SP4 HF3 and waiting for some helpfull comments about SP5a. It's important to upgrade about some fixes in the calendar and appointment features, also the user-move between servers ist better. But this time I don't wan't to be the first, but i think nobody upgrade and send the comments.....
We have to wait
Best regards BES-HH

I am also interested in hearing some experiences before applying this to our BES running SP4 HF3.
Man I would love a test environment.

I upgraded
My attachement service corrupted a few days later. I don't know if it is related. But I had to uninstall and reinstall the BES, so I went back to SP3, and I'll stay there for now.
Sorry meant SP4 HF3

BES 4.0 SP5a
We have this installed for Exchange, but so far I am the only user. We are about to switch over from Lotus Notes/Domino to Exchange in 2 weeks, then all of our users will be moved over to the new BES. I'll let everyone know if I run into any problems.

Im on it right now. Aside from needing to clear my app event logs, nothing has exploded yet. FYI, custom IT Policy items are broken for devices running 4.0, but not 3.7 or 4.1. The release notes for 4.0.2 had this, but the issue number (SDR44122) has disappeared into the ether. There are a few other IT Policy fixes in for SP5a, so I had to upgrade without delay.

I've got SP5a installed, and it seems to have a little bug to it... 500+ users on 3 Exchange 2003 clusters, and occassionaly a thread will get blocked or something, so any users associated with that thread get a Health Check Failure. Just to be clear, the whole server is not getting a Health Check Failure, just the ones in the single thread. It eventually recycle's the agent, which I've set down to 3 now to minimize the impact on the users, but RIM says they are working on it. Something seems to set it off as it will be fine for a couple of days, then yesterday I had three incidents on two different servers.
Other then that, the rest of it's been fine....

oh yah, also have noticed that I get this several thousand times a day in my AppLog, RIM hasn't commented on what to do yet:
Windows cannot load extensible counter DLL BlackBerry Router, the first DWORD in data section is the Windows error code.

I've just upgraded from 3.6.7 to 4.0, then I installed SP5a. Being an extremely small BES shop with 7 BB 7520 users, I have very little experience with BB.
I will tell you this: I am unable to get calendar entries that are keyed into the BB (we use BB 7520s) to get placed into Outlook. I do not know if this is a function of SP5a or something I have done wrong. But as I read more and more forum posts, I am finding that the BES software in general is buggy, which I am not thrilled about.

I am running SP5a in with an Exchange 2003 SP2 cluster and I am also having a LOT of reports of calendars not updating new appointments, etc. I'm about to call RIM on this one...

SP 5a installed at Friday
Friday morning i've installed SP5a on one Server, i make a Full Install after deinstall the old BES. I'm running fine with 18 Users the whole weekend - NO ERRORS in the EventLog. But on the weekend, the server has only 1500 messages to handle. Today i move the next 100 Users to the SP5a-Server.
Before, with BES 4.0.4 HF3, i've big problems with the Alert.exe, after starting the BES it goes in a few minutes to more than 40% CPU utilization, so i have to stop these service. This problem is gone with installation SP5a. Next report when i run the BES with 300 Users.
BES is running on W2K3 SP1 Server connect to Exchange w2k3 SP1 and remote SQL-Server.

This is the same setup as me with the difference of 200+ users. Yeah I think I will wait for some hotfixes. Thanks everyone.

In my case, this turned out to a be a major problem with the MAPI subsystem. I had uninstall/reinstall Exchange System Manager and SP2 on the BES to make it work correctly.
