Default FYI Otterbox Defender case NOW available

Please Login to Remove!

Hello all,

I just received my email from Otterbox letting me know they now have the 9700 Defender cases available for shipment. I just placed my order. I have had these cases for all of my BB since the 8700 and they are great. Hope to have mine in 2 days. I'm tired of being over protective with my new BB waiting for the case to ship.

Mike

I have one of these cases but stopped using it because everyone I talk to said I sounded like I was in a toilet. When I would remove the case from the phone...people said I sounded fine. I guess the case is so sealed up that it echos the voice. The case now sits in a drawer.

You have had no complaints from anyone when you spoke to them with the case on?

I did on the original 8700 case. It was much larger than the new Defender series. I did have a friend that had that problem with his Bold 9000. He called Otterbox and explained it to them and they sent him a new one. He doesn't have the problem anymore. I think it must be where the microphone hole is cut out and not lining up properly or something, but I personally have not had an issue. I have even had my wife call me from it to check it out for myself. I have had these for the 8700, 8300, 8310 and the 9000 all with out issue. the only downside is it is a little bigger than most cases, but a great insurance policy.

I would call them and let them know about your case. Hopefully it was just a bad batch.

We would appreciate a comparative analysis: case on/case off as it relates to sound quality. I have the Commuter and love it, but was considering the Defender for hiking/biking trips due to the added level of protection. Let us know what you think!

splnkr: How do the convenience keys feel with the Commuter on? Especially the right-side convenience key? I had the Epik case for a while, but found that the material of that case was stiff such that you couldn't tell if you've pressed the button until something happened on the screen, and that made the camera hard to use.

I have the Case-Mate Barely There now, but the protection isn't as comprehensive as a softcase.

Wait a minute, I'll go check....

I just hit each convenience key about twelve times. Eight to ten were successful. You have to give it kind of a moderate push, but I've never been agitated by it not coming right to life for me. Just now I had to try not to activate the other two or so times by backing off the pressure. The rubber surround is far from stiff; very pliable. Today, while mountain biking in 23 degree weather, I took numerous pictures and video while wearing a glove and the buttons fired right up (I have my camera on the right key).

I think you may mean the Defender case, but speaking for the Commuter case/9700, it is much less bulky than my 8310 and leather slip case was... CG
