You didn't say where you were vacationing, but if it's outside of North America (like overseas), there's not much point bringing an 8330 with you. It's a CDMA phone, and most of the rest of the world uses GSM.
In Canada and Mexico you
will incur international roaming charges for both voice and data unless you choose "Options | Mobile Network" and set "Data Services" to Off (or Off when Roaming). Then roaming will be limited to voice only.
