Default Firewall-open parent folder "text"

Please Login to Remove!

I manage the phones for about 25 users and I am looking to set up the firewalls to blocks MMS, yet leave SMS enabled.

I grabbed two users phones and on one the parent folder text was already open and the child folders SMS, and MMS were both availible.

On the second phone, the text option is availible to select but it does not split out the SMS and the MMS. everything else on the phones is identical. Both are new Bold 9650s from Verizon.

my questions is; how do I open the parent folder to allow me to select only MMS on the second phone? I tried the menu button (BB button) and there was not an option for this.

thanks!

When you say you "manage the phones" ... do you mean that you're the BES admin?

Are you looking to block incoming and outgoing MMS on the handhelds via BES IT Policy?

No, I am not a BES admin. I manage in the sense that I am the computer guy, radio guy, phone guy, and blackberry guy for my team members at a remote site from the BES server/admin (military).

I can put in a help desk ticket for a group policy change, but then I lose the option to manage the phone from the user end in case we need to send MMS from out in the field.

It shouldn't be any kind of policy violation, i was able to do it from our last group of phones (verizon 9630) and I was able to do it on the one users.

I am looking to block incomming and outgoing MMS.

This is a BES admin task, as far as I'm concerned.
You should send a request to your BES admins and ask them to set an IT Policy rule to block MMS for the target group of users.

Roger,
I understand I can ask my BB admin to set this as an IT policy. Unfortunatly that is not what I am looking for. I have been able to set this option at the client level on previous models and I am now looking to be able to do the same on the new model.

Unfortunatly my BB Admin is not familiar with the os on our new models so he is not able to give me any direction.

I was really just hoping to come acrross someone with the Verizon Bold 9650 who may have come accross a way to seperate the MMS from the SMS in the firewall.

Thanks, I do apprecite your input still.

Setting the firewall options on the handheld, even if you do find a way, will only prevent incoming messages. The handheld will still be able to send.

Since you want to block incoming and outgoing messages, you need to use IT Policy from BES.
