Question Loading themes on 8700 running 4.2

Please Login to Remove!

Is there any way we can extract the themes on 8800 and install them on 8700 running 8.2 ?

No - themes are designed and coded for specific models.

Will the older 8700 4.1 themes still work with the new 4.2 firmware. I am interested in keeping the Insight theme but wondering if I go through the trouble of loading it, will it even work?

It should - I loved the Insight theme and miss it on the 8800...

I'm interested in how you accomplished that and what themes are working. I've tried to get the vodafone icon theme loaded which was my favorite 4.1 theme and have had no success. I can get it on my BB using the javaloader but I can not activate it. I've tried it with and without the vodafone today theme loaded.

Any insight in how you were successful would be appreciated - especially if you have the vodafone icon theme loaded!

Thanks,
SMF

I've found that Smoothie and vodafone today are the only ones that could actually be used under 4.2.1.

I recall reading that in the 4.2 thread in the 8700 forum but kalikidtx had stated otherwise so I thought I would ask. The only one I'm really interested in is the vodafone icon theme as I like its look.

Does that theme exist in the 8800 series and can 8800 series themes be loaded onto the 8700 running 4.2?

Thanks,
SMF

By the way - which theme is "Smoothie"?

I'm continuing to experiment (a sometimes scary word) with themes on the new 4.2.1 OS on an 8700g. I've installed both the Sprint and Verizon themes from the 8800 (which in the 8800 .alx file are listed as 8800|8700 themes) and they are in my theme list but can't be activated. I assume there is a lot I don't know about themes...does anyone have pointers to where I can get more insight?

Thanks,
SMF

Almost any theme can be loaded on, but since the're not for the device they can't be activated.

The 8800 themes will not work, they're made for the trackball.

OK Thanks. Do you know why the 8800 .alx file would have listed both the Sprint and Verizon themes as 8800|8700 instead of 8800|8300 as most of the other themes?

That seems a little odd. Maybe they are in fact for both. I'll do some tinkering and see what I can find out.

Looks like it's either referring to another cod file, or it's a typo. They don't load.

I appreciate you checking. I did force them to load with the javaloader but as you said they can't be activated. Oh well, from what I can see of many of the more recent handheld builds the Vodafone icon theme that I like seems to have been dropped and isn't included.

Thanks,

It sucks! I want the Zen theme but with Applications List, not a bunch of icons on the Home Screen. But well, get used to it people, lol, 4.2 is already so cool....

Too funny how themes are so personal. I prefer the icon themes. I have Pocketday on a convenience key, so I don't need "today" themes. And I'm more of a visual icon person as opposed to a list...mainly because you can fit 18 icons on one screen.

Haven't tried to install anything other than the 4.1 versions of the BlackBerry Insight Icon and List themes onto my 8700 running 4.2.1.66. Unfortunately, they don't seem to work. I installed:

net_rim_theme_bb_insight_list_320x240.cod
net_rim_theme_bb_insight_icon_320x240.cod
net_rim_bb_backdrops_320x240.cod

Both "BB Insight-Icon" and "BB Insight-List" show up under Options -> Theme. However neither of them will activate.

As I said before, 4.1.0 themes won't work, aside from theme builder ones.
