Default BES5 on SBS2003

Please Login to Remove!

Last minute rush install time again

I have a BES that currently sits on a dedicated Win2k3 box running BES 4 (in trial mode) and the client wants to go fulltime onto BES5 with around 35 handsets.

We're planning to install BES5 on their current SBS2003 server. Is it ok to create a new BESX database and install the software onto this server?

Due to the time constraints on this, I need to get BES5 up and running on the main server asap. Seeing as there are only 3 phones at the moment, I don't think I should be concerned about shifiting/upgrading their current BES DB. Is it ok to decommision the BES4 at a later time or should I remove it now before installing BES5 onto a different server?

What do you guys think?

Their SBS2003 SP1:
- Xeon 1.6gz
- 4GB RAM
- Exchange 2003 SP2
- SQL 2005

Any advice much appreciated!

I hope you mean BES Express 5, BES 5 is not supported on SBS.

Your CPU specs are a bit on the low side. Do you have at least 1.5 gig free ram?

You can not upgrade to BES express.

BES/SBE/BPS 4.x upgrade options to BES Express 5.0 - BlackBerry Support Community Forums

The server before we put more RAM in it was using about 2gb. Added another 2gb to the system.

Yes, I mean't BES Express

I've went ahead and installed it. All prereq's checked out ok and I'm on the console.

I much prefer the old 4.1 GUI :(. Just need to find out how the hell I activate my handsets OTA now!

Yeah I did. I actually created a handful of users without refering to the guide as it's pretty clear within the console on what I needed to do.

Yup, way ahead of you All but 3 handsets (of the 30-odd) were activated a few hours ago before posting this. The 3 are yet to get ported onto the correct data plan before I can OTA activate, it can wait til tomorrow though.

Server utilization looks ok too
