Default Bes 4.17 to Bes 5.01 MR2 user move

Please Login to Remove!

hi

I have an existing BES 4.1.7 server with a local SQL 2000 database running connected to an exchange 2007 sp1 server. We have 20 blackberry handheld clients on this server.

i have installed a new BES 5.0.1 MR2 server on a new server (windows 2008 standard x64) with a local sql express 2005 database and connected it to the same exchange sp1 server.

I deployed 1 test user on the new BES 5.0.1 MR2 server and all is working well, so well that i would like to move my 2nd test user account over to this new server which is currently connected to the bes 4.1.7 server

what is the best way to move a user from a 4.1.7 to a bes 5.0.1 mr2 server. Ideally i would like to end user to see as little disruption as possible on the handheld (settings, config, pim and email data etc) I am planning to move each of the 20 users individually over the next 2 months (they travel a lot and are hardly ever in the office at the same time and cannot run the risk of a mass move)

i thought about doing it as follows:

1) remove the user from the bes 4.1.7 server (including blackberry information held in the mailbox)
2) adding the user to the new bes 5.0.1 server and do an enterprise activation.

I was hoping to do this without wiping the handheld but do not want to end up with duplicate pim items and or emails.

would the above work or is there a better / official way to do this?

Many thanks

Hi,

use blackberry transporter tool : (for all your users 4 minutes MAX )

BlackBerry Enterprise Transporter 5.0
BlackBerry - Enterprise Server Resource Kit

have fun with this !!! it took me like 1minutes to migrate my 4 beta testers

the transporter take the user from the old server and move it to the new one ... and it's invisible for the user

Make sure your users are on some of the legacy devices. To user the transporter tool they have to be at OS level: 4.3.127 or higher. They were working on fixing it, but I dont think they have.
