jack55,

Can you tell me what settings you have for bblight (exactly how you have it set) and how you have your backlight set in the "options" menu?

I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
SMF

Click on the BBlight icon, check in boxes: Activate on startup / On External Power. Activate IT by clicking the menu, then activate.

If you have BBalert, click on your BBalert icon / options / set Alert frequency / check in boxes Notify on missed calls / Notify on Missed SMS / Notify on Calendar Reminders / Vibrate on Alert

SAVE it by clicking the menu, then save.

jack55,

That's how I have it set though I've also checked "on user activity" and "on remove from holster". I'll try changing the backlight timeout - I have mine set for 2 minutes in the "options - screen/keyboard" menu. How is your backlight set in the bb "options" menu?

jack55,

Thanks. I've done some testing and it seems bblight works when connected to external power until the security lock kicks in. My company has a 10 minute timeout after which my bb is locked. The backlight stays on until this time. When the bb locks the backlight begins to cycle off and on - terribly annoying.

On my 7230 when the bb was on external power bblight would keep the backlight on but it would also keep the security timeout from activating so the bb would stay unlocked which was fantastic. Something must have changed going from 4.0 to 4.1/4.2 as bblight doesn't keep the bb from "locking".

I don't think there is anything else I can do unless someone else has an idea or someone can take a look at the bblight code and figure out a way to change the way it behaves - i.e. have it keep the bb from locking.

Appreciate the help - enjoy your Corvette Club meeting !

Thanks to BBF Member Tateu, BBLight received a much needed update. It is now possible to have the backlight stay on when "out of holster," "Receive SMS," and/or "Receive email." Version 1.83 is attached for Desktop Manager and a link for OTA, as well as a link to the instructions for use.

Thanks Tateu!

Very excited about the BBLight upgrade. However, have an error trying to run program...
"Error starting bblight: Class 'org.bblight.BBLightOptions$BBLightOptionsData' multiply defined"
Any suggestions?

>> EDIT - Found two versions simultaneously installed when I checked applications list. Deleted the earlier one and now no problem loading.
>>> Thx MrKyoo for the quick reply with the tip... Can't believe that I accidentally discovered the same thing.

I did have 1.82 until the new upgrade 1.83 that Tateu did yesterday.
Now there is a 1.84? What is different?

Do I need to uninstall and reinstall again?

BBLight v1.85:
OTA - http://www.tateu.net/software/bb.php?f=bblight
Desktop - http://www.tateu.net/software/dl.php?f=bblightdt
Source- http://www.tateu.net/software/dl.php?f=bblightsrc

Changes:

V1.85 Beta 2008-05-16
* Fixed problem that kept "Activate on Startup" from working.

V1.84 Beta 2008-05-16
* Added a system check to keep the backlight from turning on when the device is locked

V1.83 Beta 2008-05-15
* Added SMS and Email monitoring - turns backlight on when new msg is received
* Changed the options screen layout
* Changed "On Remove Holster" to "Out of Holster" and changed the way it worked. Now,
with this option checked, the backlight will always be on when the blackberry is not
in it's holster. This never worked for me in previous versions so I changed it.
* Changed "On External Power" to "External Power/Charging" and changed the way it worked. Now,
with this option checked, the backlight will always be on when the blackberry is plugged in
and/or charging. This never worked for me in previous versions so I changed it.
