MTS Mobility is a wireless carrier in Canada. Much like Verizon or Sprint in the U.S.

Not a noob, but...
never installed an OS that wasn't from my carrier. I followed the above directions, and after downloading the OS I followed the steps to get through the InstallShield. Then, when I go into my "c" drive per the directions, I do see the vendor.xml file that has today's date and I delete it. However, the only Loader.exe file I see is from November (presumably when I updated my last OS from Verizon). What am I missing?

Did you double-click loader.exe to run it?
If so, what happens?

I plug in my BB, double click "Loader" and it runs the app loader and detect my device. Then it says "adding this softwear will give downgrade your current apllication." Then gives me two options: 1) Leave the system applications on the device unchanged (recommended) or 2) Replace the device application with the older version provided by the Blackberry Desktop Softwear.

What OS are you currently running on your Tour?
Sounds like you have something newer than 5.0.0.419.

No, that is the weird part, I am currently running 4.7...61 from Verizon. The first time I went through with it I chose option 1 and of course nothing happened. I don't think chosing option 2 makes sense. I've tried to download and install twice now, plus I made sure everything was correct and I wasn't just not seeing the new "loader" file. Any thoughts? Thanks for the help.

Are you sure you're downloading the correct file? There's two links in the original post at the top of this thread.
One link leads to the 5.0.0.419 software... the other link leads to a previous version.
Also, on the MTS Mobility download page for the 9630... there's two versions of the software to download.
Make sure you're grabbing the right one.
Beyond that, no clue. You might want to start your own thread about this.

Thought of those things after the first time it didn't work, so the second time made sure I had the right links. Anyways, thanks for your help and I will start a new thread now. Thanks again.

The loader.exe file date is not important. Go COMPUTER..PROGRAM FILES..COMMON FILES..RESEARCH IN MOTION..SHARED..LOADER FILES..you should then see what OS versions your pc has installed. There is another thread here that has a user having similar issues trying to upgrade to 5.0. I have had the same issue. The only way for it to work for me was to load from a Windows XP pc. BOTH of my Vista based machines would not work. Not sure why yet though.

I've been running various different hybrids, and therefore spending time at bbhybrids.net. Over there, they are claiming that the radio files in the official .419 build are different than the leaked .419 build... for what its worth, most are saying the radio is better on the official build.
Sounds kind of strange to me, but I just thought I'd share that info. I'm switching to the official build (with hybrid), figure it can't hurt.

no clock
I've wiped - using JL Cmder - and re-installed this OS twice now and I cannot run the clock. When trying to access the clock I get the message:
uncaught exception: object already exists
anyone else getting this?

Anyone notice that the profiles on the .419 leaked version were similiar to the old profiles on 4.5 and then on this .419 official release the profiles are closer to the 4.7? Which by the way arent as user friendly. anyone else notice this? I wonder if we will be getting the more user friendly profiles in future upgrades?

A tip for those struggling with the upgrade to 5.0:
Remember to use the Loader.exe program to run the upgrade, not Desktop Manager! I just tried about a bazillion times to get the DM software to update my Tour to the new 5.0 release in the link at the beginning of this discussion. It kept failing with the notice "upgrade not necessary". Then I re-read this discussion (for the bazillionth time) and a little bell chimed in my head. Actually, the bell sounded like the BB Sanguine alert sound, but whatever. My mental fog parted and I felt a dim recollection begin to grow. Still partially obscured by shadows, the memory began to take shape and glow. Soon I saw it: Loader.exe is not the same as Desktop Manager's Loader program. Boing! As I type this the upgrade is running on my ThinkPad (I'm almost exclusively a Mac user).

It took me awhile to figure out they were different. No wonder my family cringes and suddenly disappear when I say I want help upgrading! But yesterday I did it all by myself with no glitches.
My Opera 4.2 will not work, my favorite Reverie theme is dysfunctional. The whole phone is majorly different. Why did I wait so long?? )

Looks like the cdma file is newer. Mine in this package is dated 1-12-2010. The previous one was early December. I believe the size is the same.
I hope so. The radio was OK on the leak, but could have been better.

Wirelessly posted
Has anyone else had issues getting phone calls on this release? I've had about four instances from two different people who have said that they tried to call me and my phone has never rang. I've did due verizon's *228 and select 1 to program my phone and that seems to have solved the issue. I have no problems receiving email or text msgs though.
Also, since installing this, I cannot get the weather channel's shortcut to install and work. I had to switch to Weathereye.
