Default Internet connection

I had a bb on orange working fine before. I have now upgraded to a 9000 that i bought second hand. It was previously on 3 network although has been unlocked. Although the phone works fine i cannot connect to the internet as all of the browsers come up in lower case. Im guessing 3 has put something in the phone to stop me connecting while on another network. Does anybody know if there is a way around this?

Thanks

Have you verified that the device is really unlocked?

What does it show in the upper right hand corner? 3g or 3G? gprs or GPRS?

Which explains why you can't get to the Internet. And no push e-mail or any other BlackBerry features. You have voice and SMS working, right?

Is there a BlackBerry Data Plan or bolt on or whatever it is called on the account? Because you are not connecting to RIM's infrastructure (the lower case gprs is the clue).

Wirelessly posted

Have you done the basics? ... When you switch to the other device, you change the PIN in your BIS for the new device? Have you tried re-registering, re-sending service books, and so forth?

Everything else DOESN'T WORK. You cannot have push e-mail or BBM when it says gprs.

Try calling orange and see if it is a problem on their end and see what they tell you.

Yes, i meant everything apart from the internet. I rang orange and they sent through some updates but nothing happened. They suggested that the phone must somehow still be locked to the 3 network and that is what is stopping it accessing anything.

Or the previous owner didn't removed the PIN from the old BIS account.

Can someone explain to me what the PIN from the BIS account is. Orange suggested that the previous owner didnt deregister it. Is this kind of the same thing?

Yes.
If the PIN of the BB is registered with a BIS account on 3 (BIS is what you get when you have a BB data plan), you cant register that BB on another account.

The PIN is an eight character hexadecimal number, unique to each and every BlackBerry. Options / Status will show you the PIN of your BlackBerry. It can't be changed. It can only be registered to one carrier's BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) at a time.
