So, I opened up BlackBerry Messenger on my Storm 9550 and saw this:



One is a BBM chat, which is normal, the one with the phone icon is SMS though. Why is it showing in the BBM application?! I have never seen this happen in any other BlackBerry nor have I found any setting to allow or disallow this.

The phone is unlocked and in use on T-Mobile but I doubt that has any influence here. I have only installed Opera Mini 5 beta, Facebook, and Google Maps.

I noticed this as well. It will only happen to contacts that you also have as BBM contacts/friends (as above) or contacts that you have added to BBM as SMS contacts... To me it is a huge problem as I want my alerts for SMS to be different than BBM. Even if a contact sends you an SMS, if they are linked to BBM in one of the ways I talked about above, the device will use the BBM alert.

Unlink the contact from BBM to your Contacts in the address book and it will stop.

Thanks. I will do that. Do you know if this is the same on all BB devices with 5.0 software or just on the Storm 2?

Go into your contacts list, select the particular contact, edit and remove the PIN number from the contact file.

FYI - I have all my contacts linked and this does not happen to me at all. I communicate with my wife daily on SMS and BB Messenger and there are no issues.

You might want to try uninstalling and reinstalling Messenger 5.0 and see if that helps.

but doing so also unlinks their avatar and FB picture if you so have them linked as well and puts it back as a blank ugly avatar

this will remove the PIN from the phonebook.
when you try to add the PIN again in the phonebook, it will still remain un-linked until you reboot your device. rebooting will re-establish the link.

Certain OS releases have the options to remove the integration in the BlackBerry Messenger > Options > Show Text Messages From Contacts Linked with BlackBerry Contacts. UNcheck that feature.

upgrade to the latest BBM .138 and this problem will disappear .. it is a bug in the older versions of BBM .. it's nice to keep the contacts linked to BBM - facebook so the pics and all other infos are stays up to date ... i was complaining about the same issue ..but now in the new version of BBM , you have the option to enable or disable the SMS to be shown in BBM or in the SMS folder ..
