ok I went through one by one none of those files listed are in my .alx. I ran the application loader it says no actions needed. I'll just hide the icon.

off to optimize my aunt's bb. they think I'm so smart . thanks john

Something doesn't sound right. Did you install the same OS on the PC that you have on the BB? Did you delete the vendor.xml?

I wouldn't start with someone else's before you have figured out your own.

yes and yes. I'm thinking its just me being slow. my plan is to do the whole thing over from scratch a bit later just to make sure I didn't miss anything.

common mistakes are:

1. Not installing the matching OS (maybe you installed an older one or for the wrong device.)
2. Didn't delete the vendor.xml file
3. Didn't go all the way through the application loader to the end.
4. Didn't remove the correct files from the java folder or removed them from the wrong java folder.

it had to be one of those but I don't know which one. I started from scratch-reloaded the os, deleted all the stuff. I'm just finishing up the app loader now and it seems to have worked. thanks again.

Once you understand what you're doing with it, it's really easy to add and remove .cods from your device.

Added a note about OS 4.3.x devices and the use of the older OS's 8700g tunebundle .cod.

Doesn't seem to work well with the pre-release versions of 4.3.1. Not sure what version the incompatibility started in but the notifiers contained don't show up and will show errors in the logs.

This happens when you don't have the OS installed to the computer. Step #2.

Ok, I followed the instructions, but when I try to run the app loader, I get a "Invalid Configuration" warning, saying that the application "net.rim.blackberry.xml" is needed to install the Browser. When I try to uncheck the browser option, it just highlights, but doesn't uncheck.
Any ideas will be appreciated.

Wirelessly posted (BB 11020: BlackBerry8320/4.3.1.27 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

I believe this has been addressed in this thread already but its a problem with your edited blackberry.alx. Reinstall the OS and edit it again. Don't use notepad to edit. Edit with Wordpad, at least.

If you saved an original .alx use that. Otherwise, reinstall the OS.

I thought I read all the replies looking for it, but guess I missed it.
Also, it doesn't help that my wife "ALLOWED" me the joy of watching our boys while she went shopping with friends.

Great site and thread. Thanks.

Issues. I had already DL'ed Desktop Software and the OS to my PC. I'm only down to ~14-15 MB free space. The only apps that I have added are Gmail and Google maps. I got rid of the BBMaps and the .cod's that you suggested and, also, unchecked the suggested ones on the App Loader. I'm sure there are more that I can remove, but, I don't know which ones. Until now, I had been hovering around 7 MB free

Also, when I attempt to open the BB ALX folder it prompts me with "needs to know which program"?!?!?...so I can't edit those.

Thanks in advance,
Josh

No. I can't seem to find it, unless it's hidden. I changed the option to unhide files but it still didn't show up. Weird.

When it asks you want program, choose Wordpad. That's what I use.

Thank you John Clark!

I've been putting off doing this for a while. I did this on Friday and there is a dramatic difference in free space. Kudos to you

John,

Any other suggestions for getting my free space below 14MB? I went through all of your steps and this is all that I could get to.

The part about deleting the .cod files...are you saying you can delete all of the .cod files with the exception of the dimension and zen theme files? I only have Gmail and Google Maps as added apps. I just don't see how everyone is getting to 20 megs or more of free space....then again, I am sorta new to the BB....or new to modding one.

Thanks,
Josh

I'd rather not have copy and pastes from here to there. You are more than welcome to post links, etc. It would be much better for someone wanting to do this to post a question about it here than on a sports message board.
