Default I have a question POST BES Migration

Please Login to Remove!

I migrated from one BES server to another without issue (Using the BES Migration Kit). Once I had all the users moved over from the old BES to the new one, I proceeded to remove the old server from the Blackberry Manager. The only problem is that the MDS service for the old BES server still seems to exist. Please see the screenshot. My old server name was METAMESSAGE01 and the new one is BES01 to give you an idea:

Now, this doesn't appear to be hurting anything, I'd just like to clean up the old stuff as much as possible. Any suggestions?

delete it.

in BES Manager -> BlackBerry Domain -> Global tab -> Service Control & Customization

Check out the MDS CS to BES Mapping to make sure the MDS-CS is not being used, then go for the Delete MDS Connection Service

Hrmmm.... I follow you all the way to the end but can't find where I can delete the MDS connection service. I'm running 4.1.2 right now if that matters.

You can remove it from the DB manually. If running SQL 2000/2005, use the Query Analyzer and run the following:

Delete from MDSConfig where ServerName = "<ServerName>"

Servername is the MDS-CS service in the BB Manager

If you are running MSDE, run the following from the command line:

osql -E

use BESMgmt

Delete from MDSConfig where ServerName = "<ServerName>"

Let us know how it goes.

Ugh. Any other options? Don't like the thought of manually editing the database personally.

You essentially have 3 options:

1. Do it manually
2. Upgrade the BES to SP3 or higher to get the remove option in the manager
3. Live with it as it is

SP3 and higher has the option built into the manager to remove unwanted MDS-CS servers. Not sure how well it works though.

The post SP3 removal technique (via BB Manager) works great - just had to do this a few months back...

Excellent. I'll be upgrading soon anyways so I'll use that when I get to that point.

Update: I completed the Upgrade to BES 4.1.6 MR1 without a hitch (yay!)

Now, after I first check to make sure that there is no mapping to the old connection service, then I go into "Delete MDS Connection Service" I imediately get a popup stating "There are no qualifying connection services entries to delete. The must not be mapped as servicing any BES and must be uninstalled (no service present) on the server."

It's no longer mapped to anything and the MDS Connection service is pointing to the new and working MDS connection service.

Any thoughts before I go the manual edit of the database route? I know it's not really hurting anything, but I'm anal and I just don't like seeing the old server referenced like that.

And if I DO use the query listed above, for ServerName do I list it EXACTLY as it's listed in the BES manager? (It's listed as OLDSERVERNAME_MDS-CS_1)

Thanks again for all the help guys!

What you can do is this:

select * from mdsconfig

This will give you everything, there should only be 2 in there. Just note the name of the old one and then run the delete line from my previous post. Just backup the DB before hand, just in case.

Hello,

I had exactly the same problem, after I installed a new server on new hardware and imported the besmgmt database.

I already edited the mdsconfig tables, but I got told from other users...to change the name and not deleting the name.
This was wrong.

So I imported the besmgmt database again.
Unter mdsconfig...I had 2 Lines...and I deleted the old one and it worked.

Thanks
