Default Couple of questions about the BES Migration Kit

Please Login to Remove!

1. It doesn't include new License Keys. Am I to assume it's ok to use the keys on both servers while I'm doing the gradual migration?

2. I've read a couple of posts here that make it seem almost as if the SRP ID I get with the Migration kit actually becomes the perminent key but I can't find official mention of this. Once the migtration is complete, do I need to replace the SRP that was given to me with the Migration Kit with my original SRP ID?

Thanks for the help!

I believe the one that comes with the migration kit will become your permanent key, the current one will be given an expiration time frame, I think it's 30 days. Correct me if I am wrong.

Just in case someone stumbles across this thread looking for similar info. I found it in KB10945.

Short answer is, yes you can reuse the license keys as needed without issue. and the new SRP ID does indeed become the perminent key.

You will have about 30 or 90 days (I forget the amount of time) from the first time your new SRP connects to RIM. Once it is connected there is a timebomb on your old SPR. BUT once it has expired, RIM will only block new connections with that SRP and Auth key. I had a server up and running for a week after it timed out. (maybe they fixed this since it has been a few years)

Good luck

Its 90 days (or was when we purchased one). As people have said, old SRP goes in the trash once you have cut over. We had a unique situation where we were migrating Lotus -> Exchange and ended up leaving an entire division on Lotus. Those nice RIM people let us keep extending our old key for ~1 yr before saying 'uhh, this is the _last_ 90 day extension'
