Do you have the desktop manager software installed? You need to if you want to charge via the USB cable.

You need to install the BlackBerry USB drivers -- the easiest way to do is install BlackBerry Desktop Manager. (Though you can copy the USB driver files from an existing installation onto a memory stick -- you only need two files.)

Plug it into a powered hub, not an unpowered hub. Try plugging it directly into the computer.

If you already did this (And can even sync), and if the lightning bolt stays highlighted, it might be charging at the USB slow charge (100mA) rather than the fast charge (500mA). Give it an overnighter. If you are on fast charge, you will get noticeably improved partial charge after 30 to 60 minutes, though in reality it takes a few hours to fully top off from a USB port. The standalone charger is usually faster.

Do you mind telling which files you need exactly? I would like to put them on my USB drive in case this happens to me and I need to use a public/shared computer.

"If you want to charge your Blackberry on your laptop without installing the BB Desktop Manager software, you can copy 2 files to your c:\winnt\system32 directory:
RimUsb.sys
RimUsbNT.inf

You can get these 2 files from the cd or from someone who has the software installed."

Courtesy of txag94 in previous thread on this topic....I installed this on my other laptop computer to do just this...

I dont need that installed to charge my 7290. When ever I have plugged my BB into a computer it has charged. I have noticed that its slower than mains charging even with the software installed

I notice a significant charge speed increase by loading the drivers beforehand.

But if you just put it on to charge over night, then you can leave it running w/o the drivers and it should be ready by the morning.

I've actually seen a message pop up on my device when plugging it into a computer without the drivers. Something to the effect of "Insufficient power from USB, please install the drivers"
