Think you may be out of luck on this one... I've never seen one myself either, had a client looking a while back as well.

Considering the device is so closed when it comes to hardware I seriously doubt such a solution exists, weird that RIM has never looked into this..

There is a lot of weird things that RIM has done/not done. I bet someone could write a book about this. :P

At least they got the basics right.

Default barcode reader

I have seen a barcode reader connected to a 5820 (and working), using the Serial connector. the 7230 uses passive USB (or a phrase very similar to that) so cannot "manage" peripheral devices.

If this is still a live issue let me know and I can ask one of our developers what they used / are using.

Other devices we have been wanting (and having less success with) include;

signature capture
printer
credit card reader

All can be obtained but at some significant cost.

I havent found a Reader yet for Blackberry, but NEXTEL Offers all those feaures in other handsets so would it be the end of the world having a Blackberry 7510 for Email and Phone use, and a Motrola Handest for Credit Card Swiping with printer, Bar Code reader and GPS......... Call a Nextel Sales Person or an AR and they can get you hooked up.

There's a company I've seen that has a cradle that you mount the Blackberry in that allows it to swipe credit cards, and print receipts out on the fly already. (the name escapes me, but I'll find it again) I don't see why they wouldn't have barcode capacity already!

I'm still waiting on a response, but it pays to use google!

This seems pretty darn functional, but it's not the company I was originally thinking of. I'm still waiting for an e-mail response

That barcode scanner is pretty mint, and I guarantee it will work with the brand new 5790 Blackberry, I wonder if this would work with the 7750.. as it has a similar port on the bottom of the BB.

If you do find something better, please post! I think that a blackberry that can scan barcodes, credit cards, and print receipts along with GPS? Puh-leeze. I could sell CONTAINERS.
