Pc Interface?
Please Login to Remove!
Hi all! I am brand new in the balckberry world, but I have been trying for the last couple of days to find a Pc interface, that would allow me to manage my Storm thru my pc keybord, sort of like Myphonexplorer does with Sony Ericsson phones: Appart from the usual sync, upload and backup functions, it lets you write SMS directly from the PC, make phone calls, manage things like contacts, calendar, etc. with your PC keyobrd & mouse.
So far, the standard Desktop Manager is a disappointment: It falls far behind MPE funcionalities. Any hint? Thanks!

Really? How could this be? Such a great tool! Well, I guess I'll just have to get used to typing the hard way Thanks!

Yeah, BlackBerry devices are not standard mobile phones. If you find the Storm difficult to type on, I'd consider getting a different model with a real keyboard.

Many people manage the contacts, notes, calendar and tasks in Outlook or another PIM, and then sync them over with Desktop Manager's Intellisync function.

Unfortunately, I don't believe that is what the OP is wanting to do... I believe they are desiring to control every function of the device from their PC, which is not possible.

I interpreted just this part - "manage things like contacts, calendar, etc. with your PC keyobrd & mouse"; you are correct, they want the Nokia Desktop or the POS that helps you run the Motorola phones. MPT.

If it's any help there is an SMS tool out there called QuickerSMS which does a reasonable job of running your text messaging from your computer although it doesn't fully sync your text history. Not bad though.

Actually there is a little-known program out there that will do exactly what you want. I am not sure if their registration has resumed yet. It has been closed for a while, but if/when they open it up again, it's perfect for your needs. I've been using this for many months and love it.

I've installed this to give it a try... just need to wait for a reply from their support team about how to obtain a licence code. If anyone has any luck please keep us posted. Nice one Clifford.

Well I've got viaDock up and running and visually it's very impressive, giving you keyboard and mouse control over your phone functions with a full screen view of your blackberry on your computer. HOWEVER! For the purposes of SMS from your computer keyboard I still prefer QuickerSMS as it is dedicated to the task. With viaDock you will find sending a group SMS just as fiddly as it is on the phone itself. Not an issue unless like me you send out regualr alerts to groups etc. You can also setup groups on the BB I suppose which would help.
Try them both and see what you think.
Good luck.

Be careful with this link as there is a newer version now called viaDock... same website but best to email them for the current link. Thanks for the info though. Very helpful.
