Default rattling sound from camera...

Please Login to Remove!

Hi there,

I have a brand new Bold 9700 and love the device. However, I found that a slight rattling sound can be heard if you tap the back of the phone around the camera area.

I have checked the internet and there are a number of people who have noticed a similar rattle (also can be heard on the i-phone 3GS). I have also checked a colleague's 9700 and it too has exactly the same "feature". So my conclusion is that it is not a fault, but possible just the way the phone was designed?

It does not seem to cause any problems, but it is an annoyance in an otherwise perfect device.

Is anybody else experiencing this? Again, it is a very slight sound that can only be heard when you tap it - shaking the device does not cause the sound to be heard...

Any idea what can be causing this?

From your post, it sounds like tapping the device on the back, near the camera is the cause. Why would you tap the back of your phone and then question that it makes a rattling sound? I would think that delicate electronic equipment should not be "tapped".

Thats the auto focus lens in the camera, my Tour does has the rattle as well. Can't do anything about it. But rest assured, it's definably NOT broken.

Nothing should physically move or rattle in this regard.
The auto-focus is digital, not mechanical.

I was pretty sure that the auto-focus on any camera requires some movement of the lens. If the lens is incorrectly positioned, the light hitting the sensor will be out of focus, and digital correction will be unable to correct for it. I suppose you could run the image through some sort of digital filter instead, but that is not true auto-focus. Bottom line, true auto-focus requires some sort lens (or sensor) movement.
