Hi,

I have a question about BB remote unlocking services. Which one would you use? There are many services like blackberryunlock.biz, bb-server.eu, unlocktotalk, whose prices range around 20-30$. There are also local services on Craigslist where you can pay around $25-30.

and then there's eBay... where you can buy unlock codes for $5 for most models and $10 for Storm.

My question is why the huge price difference between eBay and the other services? Is there a difference in how they obtain their unlock codes? This has been bugging me for quite some time...

I would tend to spend my money with someone who 1) I could trust, 2) is trackable, and 3) I know is going to be there tomorrow if I have a problem.

But some people would rather save a couple of dollars. To each his own.

right, i understand that. but the thing is this isn't a COUPLE of dollars. this is $15 to $20 difference. i think that's quite a sum to consider..

And you havent thought that maybe the ebay person selling unlock codes for $5 is doing so not because they have codes but because its an acceptable amount of money to scam people for?

i thought of that as well, but the seller has extremely good ratings, although that could be spoofed as well. i dont know ebay very well...

anyway, do you guys know how these services are obtaining these unlock codes?

edit: I just remembered that one of my personal friends actually used the eBay service, and definitely got her device unlocked. So as far as I know the service is legit.

that particular seller was legit.
there alot of people on ebay claiming to sell unlock codes.
thats why you have to be wary of them.

Why not just call AT&T and ask them for the unlock code first? They typically give them out for free if your account history is good with them.

BABYGODZILLA - not to flame or harass - but why would ask advise ... get advise from not 1 or 2 - but 4 knowledgeable and respected members on this site, then argue with them?

Go with one of the cheap-o services and maybe you get a working code. Maybe you don't. Maybe you don't get a code at all. Then you can spend time fighting with them to get your money back.

Or just go with Horizon. They're a quality outfit, guarantee their results, and have a solid rep here. I've used Horizon several times.

It just seems to me that when you go with a "my cousin knows a guy who has the hookup" kind of thing, you're lucky if you get anything at all. But hey, do whatever you think serves you best.

Oh sorry. I'm not trying to argue, just want to know people's opinions on all these services and their prices. That's all.

Ebay sounds like a good option....make sure they have good feedback on their codes and pay with somthing you can get your money back from...like PayPal.

If I wanted an unlock code and couldn't get it from my provider for free, I'd go with Horizon.

You don't need the original SIM card. If you're an O2 customer/account holder you can request the code for free. If not, go to HorizonWirelessOnline.com - Horizon Wireless, The World’s Cellular Repair Center ß to get the code.

If the owner of the site uses it as well as MANY well respected members, then you can bet that HorizonWirelessOnline.com is the best. I've used them many times and never had a single problem.

I have unlocked two Blackberry Storms with a simple call to Verizon.
When I got my new Storm 2 they initially said that they could only unlock one phone per customer every 10 months. I bought the Storm2 on a deal they sent me, so they unlocked it anyway.
Took about 5 minutes.
