Default Mailbox move from one Storage group to another

Please Login to Remove!

Running Exchange 2003sp2. Two storage groups/each storage group has 4 mailbox stores all on a cluster. When I move a user from storage group A to storage group B - their BB does not recognize this move. My solution has been to remove them and re-add them, but from what I've been reading this may not be necessary? I am a bit confused though about all the different steps that people have taken, so I wondered if there were any definate step by step instructions on what to do on the BES server (4.1) to avoid having to remove/re-add the user. Thanks in advance for any help you can shed on my problem.

If you are moving users between mailstores on the same server BES will not notice the change. You must restart the BES services for it to recognize the mailbox on the new store (on the same server). If you move to a mailstore on another server BES will pick that change up, although I restart the services to speed things up.

Does the user need to have his Blackberry turned off at this time or can they still be using it? My plan is to move 50 IT people over night, then reboot the BES server when the last person is done. Some of the people use these all night long - will that impact me/them at all?

Move them all and reboot (or restart services). That's what I do. Worst case scenario is that the user would have to Alt-Cap-Del there Blackberry, but I doubt it.

If you move user A first and don't restart the BES for hours, while the other users are moving, then user A's BB won't be getting email. If the moves are going to take hours (mine would due to large mailboxes), then you may want to restart the BES services at intervals until all mailboxes are moved. Up to you. If it's late and the users are not night owls ,then I'd restart one time.

After you moved the mailbox, open up a command prompt and run handheldcleanup.exe -u. You can find this tool in \Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Utility
