Default Acceptable Life Span of BB?

Please Login to Remove!

I have had my Storm phone for over 2 years now. It still works alright to make calls and send text messages. However it seems like more and more I am having to do battery pulls because it locks up with a black screen and will not respond to turning the devxxx305;ce off/on. There xxx305;s also the occasxxx305;onal graphic where the DT pxxx305;cture wxxx305;ll be scrambled untxxx305;l I reorxxx305;ent the phone.

Also can its age affect how it plays media specxxx305;fxxx305;cally xxx305;nternet vxxx305;deos? Or what all effects that?

Maybe YouTube xxx305;s not the best way to carry my favorxxx305;te musxxx305;c around but xxx305;t xxx305;s now almost always comxxx305;ng up wxxx305;th the error message 'content xxx305;s blocked or server xxx305;s unresponsive' I know some vxxx305;ds are not avaxxx305;lable on mobile devxxx305;ces but these are happening wxxx305;th vxxx305;deos that have played fxxx305;ne before. Thank you.

As far as hardware, blackberrys can last almost forever. Pay attention and see the old models that are still being carried by people. I have an 8700g that I keep as a backup and which as been loaned out numerous times, and other than wear and tear it is still fine. I have an 8820 I used for a number of years and now has been used by my wife for probably going on 2 years now.

You need to look at the applications you are running, what and how many apps you have running at the same time, and pay attention to what you have being sent to background when closed.

And look at free memory. Note the value after a battery pull, and then check it later on. I don't know what the minimum advisable amount is, but you can find out. If you are running to low, figure out how to free some up and do it.

Thank you Aiharkness for your reply.

I have now checked the free memory and I think it could probably use a purge. However I was actually going to ask how to do that. :D

Would anyone tell me how please? Thanks again.

The first step is to not store media in main memory. Move any images, audio, and video files to the microSD card. And remove apps and themes you don't need.

Yeah, I don't think it's an age specific problem either, my 9550 does every one of these things occasionally too, and it's only 3 weeks old. As far as memory goes, all of my main memory is free and 89 mb of the app memory is free as well...I just thought it was a bug in my theme at first, but today the screen scrambled as soon as I opened the browser and had to reset it.

It also depends on how many times its been dropped with height, bouncing surface etc. factored in. In my experience batteries last about 2 1/2 years before they need to be replaced. As far as software, at some point completely erase everything and start over. That said you should get 3 or so years before you see failure.

This is my opinion and your mileage may vary.
