Default How to unlock Sprint 9650

Please Login to Remove!

Hi, I'm upgrading about to get the 9650 this week and wondering what is the process to get the phone unlocked so that I can use a third-party international SIM card for when I am traveling abroad. I think that is all I would need to do or is there something else that needs to be done?

Thanks in advance!

As far as I know Sprint doesn't lock their world phones.

Welcome to the forum!
You will need to contact Sprint and ask them for the unlock code. If for some reason they won't give it to you, try Horizon Wireless, they are one of the forum sponsors.

For the Tour 9630, Sprint started shipping all of them unlocked after about the first month. So they might do this for the 9650 as well.

If you are a Sprint customer, just call and ask.

If not, just use a commercial vendor as noted above.

According to a BGR report, all the 9650s are shipped unlocked by Sprint.

Hi, it says "SIM Card: Security Disabled" for the header, and after I type in MEPD it says that Network is "Disabled", so I guess it's unlocked.

Yup so far it seems that they do come unlocked on sprint. Verizon on the other hand probably will lock the device.

So now that we've figured out the Sprint BB Bold 9650 is unlocked... What must I do to get it ready to accept a third party SIM card when I'm abroad? I went into Manage Connections, and see Mobile Network: Sprint, Network Selection Mode: Automatic (pull-down menu exists but no options), and Network Technology: GSM/UMTS, 1EXEV, Global. I noticed I can only use Global here in the states, when I change it to 1XEV I can't make or receive calls. It's odd because the top right corner of the screen indicates 1XEV right next to the reception bands.

gincornell64, you need to contact an unlocking company.
We recommended Horizon Wireless here.

If you are on Verizon and your account has been in good standing for the required amount of time, you can call Verizon and get the code for free.

Default My Verizon BB 9650 network is blocked

I got the verizon BB 9650 from USA and tried to use it with another GSM sim card. I tried to activate the the new line but my actions seems to have blocked the Network that I can not unlock the phone anymore. What should I do.

Ah, a completely different situation. (Note that you should put the actual phone service carrier that you are with in your profile.)

You need to purchase an unlock code (as noted above) and enter that unlock code following the instructions provided with the code.

HOWEVER, if the device has already had the unlock code entered incorrectly 10 times then it is permanently locked to the original carrier and cannot be unlocked for use with a different carrier.

I did all these, but the system says SIM card rejected? Does anyone know how to fix this?
