Hi everyone. I lost my BB9780 last week on metro(stolen), I'm using BIS and blackberry protect.

What I'm concerned is that there is no lock for the phone so the thief can see all my personal e-mails and media. And something for sure is that he had thrown my sim-card away and possibly using 2G supported network.

This morning I logged on Blackberry Portect website and tried to lock my lost phone and it showed [faild to communicate with the device]

So now I'm confusion because what on earth the BBProtect do? Only to back up my data?

Please who know under what condition, can I lock my phone?
Does the blackberry protect lock the phone throught the PIN or through the phone's number?
what if the holder change into a different network supplier?

If BlackBerry Protect could not connect to the device, most likely has had the SIM card has been removed.

I'm confused as to why you waited until this morning to try to contact the device rather than last week when you lost it. That's when BlackBerry Protect likely would have been more effective.

At this point, there is likely nothing you can do. Next time, be sure to have a password on the device as well if you have data on the device that you don't what others to be be able to access.

Call your carrier and see if they can and will block it.

Password delays, but now I learned something.
I think the BBProtect should update from this aspect, why not just lock the phone through phone's PIN, then it can be more secure.

BB protect works through a combination of PIN (to identify the device) and BBID (to identify the account). It is still possible for BB protect to contact the device after switching SIMs, provided the device battery is not depleted, the device is turned on, BB protect has not been removed and the device has signal.

I've used BB protect succesfully to recover a lost BB on two seperate occasions, and once to backup and wipe an unrecoverable device. Timing is crucial. You wouldn't wait a week beforte going to a hospital after an injury, would you?

It is considered bad forum manners to hijack another users thread, especially when your post has nothing to do with the original poster's question. The proper thing to do would be to start a new thread using the "NEW THREAD" button at the top of each Forum section.

What sort of messages are you asking about - text messages or email? If email, do you use BIS or BES?
