Default Why gmail almost instant, others 15 minutes or so?

Please Login to Remove!

There are too many gmail threads so I hope my subject is clear.

I am just curious why gmail is "retrieved" or "pushed" almost instantly to my 8830 while all of my other email accounts take what I will call the normal interval to be "sent" to my BB. I have tested this my sending from my computer to both the gmail account and my other accounts. Gmail alerts about the arrival almost as soon as I click Send on my computer. The other accounts take their normal interval of about 15 minutes (I know it will poll sooner if there is some).

All email accounts, including gmail, were set up the same way on my BB so _I DID NOT DO ANYTHING DIFFERENT_ for gmail. Does Google (gmail) have a special relationship with BB?

Again, more just curious than anything else.

Thanks in advance.

The short answer: Yes, gmail has a special setup w/RIM for email.

The long answer: see the posts below. ;)

Gmail (free and hosted), Hotmail (and MSN), AOL, Yahoo and I believe GoDaddy are all "instant" now. However, I don't know if it is BIS or AT&T but it doesn't always work that way. I did a quick test this morning (10:23 EST), sending from my handset BES to my msn and gmail (hosted) accounts on BIS and here's the results on how long before the message arrived at the handset from pressing send:
5 seconds to att.blackberry.net
25 seconds to msn.com
Its been five minutes and nothing from gmail. It didn't even get to the gmail inbox yet so something is screwed up with google's service. Generally I find it arrives within ten seconds for gmail hosted.

Regards-Michael G.

Manager of the Department of Redundancy Department.
I shoved your tagline into the quote since it seems you were attempting to avoid just what your tag says.

Thanks for the quick response.

Apple's .Mac (MobileMe) is instantly pushed to your BB as well now. But reading an email on your BB or deleting it on your BB does not change the message status on your computer. No syncing of read/unread status or deletions.

This might help you understand the BIS process.

That's what is so odd for my email. My Fiance's blackberry gets his mac mail instantly. I don't get my mac mail for 15 minutes if I am lucky, one I didn't get for 2 days. I don't know what's up with mine. Going to sprint tonight to have them look.
