the last few apps i've installed, including Shazam Encore, are requesting "personal information" in order to function properly. this includes my email list, and information contained in files and folders on my BB. why are these people asking for this? ... why is RIM promoting these app developers to do this? ... and who in their right mind would allow this? do these morons actually believe I will allow access to this info? is there a way around this?

There's no way around it.

Don't use the apps if you don't like the terms.

You could email the developers and complain about it. If enough people did that maybe they would listen. Unfortunately most people don't care.

More often than not, the acsess the app wants, is to be able to send invites/info to your contacts via email/bbm, but is always initiated by you. In order to send email, the app needs permission to initiate a request to your address book to work with them. Read the EULA and Privacy notice for the specific details on what info is acsessed and how its used.
