Default Which Carrier?

Please Login to Remove!

I have a Bold 9000 which is unlocked. It originally was using AT&T. Which carriers will work with this phone?

It had
AT&T - very expensive for blackberry (with required BB Plan they charged me over $110 per month)
T-Mobile - Sim kills the battery in two hours flat while in standby
Virgin - am told by customer service they do not use Sims

Any suggestions from someone who is successfully using a carrier with their BB 9000 would be highly appreciated.

You answered your own question.

In the United States, your GSM options are TMobile and AT&T. That device is a GSM device. It will only work on GSM networks.

AT&T is going to cost more than TMobile for a variety of reasons. AT&T requires a data plan.

No idea why the "Sim kills the battery in two hours". That makes no sense. TMobile will allow a BlackBerry on their network without a data plan.

Virgin is a CDMA carrier.

Perhaps the network is set to 2G & 3G, and being that the 9000 won't pick up T-mobile 3G, its draining the battery looking for a 3G signal.

Thanks for the responses.

I did turn off the 3G function on the blackberry. Even went to a T-Mobile store and the gent there checked the settings and said it looked good -but- I doubt he was a techie.

I suppose I can always go back to AT&T and do the no contract $60 a month route which gives unlimited everything. Seems my only choice.

I'm using 9000 on TMO and definitely not experiencing the battery drain! I doubt the SIM is responsible for this

Hmmm... maybe I need to find another T-mobile store where they know if my settings are correct. Dont know though. Took out the sim and the battery lasted 10 days before hitting 10%.

It is considered bad manners to hijack another user's thread, especially with different issues than the OP.

Please start a new thread in the proper section with your questions/problems.

Agreed on above comment.

No contract and $60 a month.?? unlimited everything..? Up here in Canada that would be considered a SMokin Deal my friend..!! But then we get boned for near everything here cellular..for that matter we get pretty much boned on EVERYTHING...at least in Ab there is no HST.
