The 9100 is basically a Bold 9700, with a smaller key pad.
I got the 9100 for my wife who does a fair bit of texting and e-mailing. She was doing this before from a phone, a Motorola Razor V9. Clearly the suretype keypad of the 9100 is superior to a phone, but not as good as a full key pad of most Blackberrys, including the Bold 9000. I tried the key pad of the 9100 and it is very good at predicting what you are typing, but takes some getting used to. I will see how my wife is getting allong with it.
I have the Bold 9000 runing OS 5 (which takes up more memory than the original OS 4.6) as well as lots of 3rd party programs. I am running out of program memory and manually reboot a couple of times a week just to get back headroom. There are a couple of programs I used to run, but did not use often, which I have taken off my 9000 so I can free up memory. (I just uninstalled a Fifa World Cup program, because it is no longer needed). Rumor has it that the new OS 6 for Blackberry will take up even more memory and as a result will not be ported to the Bold 9000.
Have you looked at the Bold 9700? It cannot be much more than the either the 9000 or 9100, and gives you the full key pad of the 9000 with the full 256 mb of program memory that the 9100 has.
