The wife is eligible for an upgrade on 8/11. I plan to get the Tour on her upgrade, then change it over to my number as she doesn't want or need a BB. Waiting an extra month will give me time to read all of your reviews, likes/dislikes, etc.

The 8860? is that a Verizon model? or were is it from? I don't recall a 8860? Also the new models will have a faster chip set. Old phones will be slower. Again can you give me info on the 8860. |

Yeah. I posted the same question? Do you mean 8830? If so, there is a big difference in memory. It is a narrower phone. If you only e-mail, then keep your 8830

I'll assume you meant the 8830. From this comparison, the Tour has the camera and video capabilities, as well as other nice stuff like talk/standby battery time, and the standard 3.5mm headset jack.
Along with other smaller differences in size, weight, etc.

The 9630 is smaller, camera/video camera.
9630 also has 256 MB of memory where the 8830 had 48, huge difference right there..
9630 processor is also twice as fast, with a separate processor for the radio.

The 8830 is woefully underpowered for today's applications. I get a lot of email and the 48MB is gone very quickly. As a result, the whole phone is slooooow. I'm not trying to do anything fancy here, just dismiss a few reminders and check a few web pages and the thing can crawl to a standstill.
Nicer screen, BB OS 4.7, it's a big step in the right direction.

We probably will see little no hit on performance when we are on the and doing other things on the BB. (Taking notes, Brick Breaker lol, going threw messages.)
Being able to talk on the phone with data transmission would be nice, but I don't believe CDMA does that right?

Nope, no simultaneous voice and data. That's a limitation of CDMA currently.

It's not a limitation of CDMA per se, but a limitation of the current implementation of the Verizon Wireless Network.
EVDO Rev A can do VoIP to the handset, where all voice/data comes to the handset as data, rather than on a voice channel. As far as I know, it will only take a network upgrade to enable this. I'm checking with some of the network engineers to see if this upgrade is going to happen and when. Simultaneous data and voice is a killer feature.

Well Verizon does this now with Push to Talk (PTT). PTT is on EVDO Rev A. There are no plans to do it on a standard handset. They will start doing this on LTE (4G). LTE will do voice and data on the same stream. |

It will be a while, 2010/2011 besides it will probably take RIM a bit longer to get an LTE BlackBerry out there.
