Is your mapi profile correct? Start the BlackBerry Server Configurator and go to the BlackBerry Server TAB and check and test your MAPI profile.

Default I also just finished BES 4.1 for Exchange install

My problem is I chose MSDE because we do not run SQL. When I try and launch BB Manager for the first time it errors saying:

Database Login failed using trusted credentials. Please try again

Banging head against wall...please help.

Sounds like you just need to make sure all your BES services are using an account that has admin creds to the local server and to the mail store.

What I did was create an account thats mail enabled. Create a group put the account I created in the group. Went to the bes server and made that group a part of the Local Admins group.
Setup the correct permissions on the information store so that the account has the required access.
The BES manager should then prompt you for what MAPI profile to use you then enter the account created with the password and you should be good to go!
Give it a whirl and let us know! If you get stuck download the System Installation PDF and follow it step by step!

are you using BB Manager on the server or from a local desktop machine.
If local desktop you might need a reg hack to resolve.

i just installed on my desktop and there are no reg hacks to get it working just run setup and choose manager... then when prompted add your bes servername there is a thread I found somewhere in these forums that tells how to do it step by step if you are interested in doing that

i have the same issue: failed to open the default message store using the mappi profile blackberry manager

if i install the BES on an XP machine with Outlook it works great but since the machine is shut off at night the Blackberrys must be reactivated the next day, so I uninstalled and installed it on a Server 2003 machine with exchange admin tools, and this error keeps appearing. I have checked the permissions and they are correct. Any Help appreciated.

Find cdo.dll (c:\program files\exchsvr\bin if I remember correctly) and run "regsvr32 cdo.dll"

CDO also needs to be registered in system32, and the CDO must match the CDO version on the Exchange server. I have a feeling there's more to this problem than just registering the CDO patch, but I'm not sure yet!

Did you get a message saying the CDO had registered correctly, and do you know that the CDO versions match on Exchange and BES??

I stil don't think we're looking in the right place. For the hell of it you could try just performing a repair of the installation.

CDO Versions match all latest updates, tried a repair earlier of both OS and BES - SAME. Its a shame as it works great under XP except for having to activate daily

Why do you have to activate daily? I could shut my machine down for the night and when it restarted it just pushed any new mail and kept right on going.

Oh yeah, you're using the same mail account and the same windows account account to start the services as you did on the XP box, right?

how about this...You can run the Blackberry Manager as a standalone app. Install it on an XP box with Outlook, leaving the BES itself on the Ws2003 box. Then try connecting remotely to manage the BES.

yeah thought that myself, so i downloaded virtual server from Microsoft and set it up, exchange 2003sp1, BES, and connected the machine up making sure to change the Internal IP for forwarding the ports and it fails to activate unable to connect to server, I guess i will just have to get everyone to reactivate every morning, RIM never did send me the details for my support package :(

I had the same problem when I first tested 4.1 for Exchange.

Have a look in the logs (normally located in C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Logs) for the MNGR log. You will see probably see something similar to:

[30000] (06/01 09:34:30):{0x9F4} BlackBerry Manager Version 4.1.0.38 starting...
[30000] (06/01 09:34:31):{0x9F4} Mailstore Connector initialized.
[00000] (06/01 09:34:32):{0x9F4} DBUtil::initASCL(): ASCL failed to initialize
[00000] (06/01 09:34:32):{0x9F4} DBUtil::setLoginName(): Failed to set the login name for the database
[00000] (06/01 09:34:47):{0x9F4} DBUtil::setLoginName(): Failed to set the login name for the database
[20000] (06/01 09:34:47):{0x9F4} COM Error 0x80040E4D in ConnectionItem::ConnectToDB() - Login failed for user '<Username>'. - IDispatch error #3149 (connection string - Provider=SQLOLEDB;Server=<Server Hostname>;Database=BESMgmt;uid= <Username>;pwd=)
[00000] (06/01 09:34:47):{0x9F4} DBUtil::initASCL(): ASCL failed to initialize
[00000] (06/01 09:34:47):{0x9F4} DBUtil::setLoginName(): Failed to set the login name for the database
[00000] (06/01 09:34:47):{0x9F4} DBUtil::initASCL(): ASCL failed to initialize
[00000] (06/01 09:34:47):{0x9F4} BlackBerry Manager has failed to initialize. Shutting down...
[30000] (06/01 09:34:49):{0x9F4} BlackBerry Manager has shutdown

This is caused by the account you selected in the MAPI requestor not having the correct Exchange permissions. Work through your Exchange permissions again and you will find that you have missed something.

You will also get "Database Login failed using trusted credentials. Please try again" if you did or are doing an install with the MSDE in a terminal services environment. (Ran into this last week during our upgrade).

Connect via KVM to the BES and re-run the install.

Not sure if this is related, but it fixed it for us.

-- Also, just for S&G we then moved the BES to a VM and pointed it to our SQLServer 2005 (Also in a VM) and have noticed SIGNIFICANT perfomance improvements.
