Default AT&T / Cingular needs a cheap data plan...

Please Login to Remove!

Im new to the blackberry phones, (had a treo 680 and a 650 before my new pearl ) and I have to say that they are missing the boat here. My Treo we had the MediaMax 200 plan that was $19.99 for unlimited internet and 200 text messages and 20 MMS messages. Great Deal! Now with the blackberry it seems you can not this for almost double the price.

That is the one complaint I have on the blackberry. Great phones, but the data plans are a little expensive for what you get. I guess I should mention, that no, I wouldnt use my phone for EMail, but to quickly check out the traffic, or a quick stock quote... maybe...

I have shown off a lot of people (whom have treo's) the pearl, and they all ask about the data plans. I tell them about the Blackberry personal unlimited plan for $30 without SMS texting. Thats when they loose interest.

Off my soap box... thanks for reading...

Default THats not right

tHAT PLAN YOU HAD WAS NOT RIGHT OR INTENDED FOR THE TREO. iF THEY EVER FOUND OUT YOU WOULD GET AUDITED. tHE CORRECT PLAN FOR THE TREO IS 39.99 FOR PDA UNLIMITED. SO YOUR ACTUALLY GETTING OFF EASIER W/BLACKBERRY. BC THE PLAN IS ONLY 29.99 FOR PERSONAL. TRUST ME I WORK FOR AT&T. THE MEDIA NET PACKAGE YOU HAD IS SUPPOSED TO BE FOR HANDSETS ONLY

All I can say is "boo hoo!"
Go north of the border and $25/month gets you half a meg. If you want anything CLOSE to unlimited (250megs) you're looking at around $100/month.

So before you start crying about how expensive $30/month is, consider that you're pretty darn well off!

Yeah, but my $30 is worth more than your $30. Just as my $30 is absolutely worthless in the UK ;)

I pay 20 bucks a month for unlimited data with no texting, but I paid 30 dollars for a one time fee for jivetalk IM which let's me use aim as data. I can also transfer the program to other cell blackberries when I upgrade too. I also tether my phone to the pc when my internet's down and it's way faster than dial up (about 2-3 times faster). Altogether it's about 54 dollars a month I pay (29.99 for 300 anytime free weekends) for the service and it's awesome!

Have you checked the CAN$ -> US$ exchange lately? $30 CAD is only reduced to $28 US. $2 is hardly a difference as far as I'm concerned.
