Default Sending an Attachment

Please Login to Remove!

Hi!

We can't send emails from our handhelds that include attachments. Since this problem is happening on both models i thought it might be something i need to change on the BES, hence the BES thread category.

We compose a new email and click "attach file" choose a .jpg then the blackberry says "The attachment file may be reduced in size." We then browse for the file and click send. It shows up as sent on the handheld, but if you check the sent messages on the GroupWise client, the email never appears. In fact, no email appears. What are some ways to troubleshoot this issue? I haven't tried anything other than a .jpg.

On the 8300 we are using pics that we took with the built in camera. On the 8800, i am using pictures stored on my micro-sd card.

AT&T 8300 and AT&T 8800

BES 4.0.4 Hotfix 1(Bundle 19) GROUPWISE!

thanks..

hmmmm not sure if BES 4.0.4 and upload attachments from the HH's. I think you might need to be at 4.1.

I checked the services and the blackberry attachment service is running and is on automatic. We make sure all of our blackberry services are always running and started.

All the RIM documentation say to upgrade the BES to 4.1.3 and to upgrade the handhelds to at least 4.3

Dammit

Of course RIM is going to say upgrade, that's what they always say......

Attaching pics from the HH and emailing them became available only on 4.2 or 4.3 HH code and you need BES 4.1.3 for it to work. The attachment service was not designed for this in older versions. That's why RIM says to upgrade, the functinality is not there and cannot be made to work.

If you do not have TSupport the 4.1 upgrade is not free as well. It's $1000 I think for the one time upgrade but you will get the latest version.

i just called RIM. We have to go from 4.0.4 to server pack 6 (4.0.6) then service pack 7 (4.0.7) which is called service pack 7 maintenance release 3. Then try that. And if we want to after that...go to 4.1....

oh jesus.

can you install these service packs (service pack 6 and 7 for 4.0) during "peak" hours? meaning will we have any outtages? Or should we install these service packs during off hours. i.e. weekend?

Doing any installs on the BES requires a reboot. This in turn causes the BES to rescan the mailboxes. Until a users mailbox is scanned they will not receive any mail. So yes, there will be a temporary outage. Depending on how many users you have will determine the rescan time. I usually give 30 mins for every 70-100 users, just to be safe.

You should be able to install SP7 ratehr than SP6 then 7. They are cumulative so SP7 has the SP6 updates as well.

I never install SP's one at a time for BES. I just jump to the latest.

Not sure if anyone else here has any thoughts when going to SP7 on BES 4.0.

Yep just get the 4.07 download, and add to your mix, i am in the same boat, running 4.07 with almost all handsets up to 4.2.2, attachment service works fine, had three older Pearls on 4.1 and they were 'complaining' about not being able to attach photos they took of a damaged part on an offshore project.

updated the handsets, never touched the BES since we have been on 4.07 for a while now.

i don't relish the thought of having to pay for v4.1.x though -- thats just wrong. i wonder if i call to say i canceling my 40 users, would Voda be kind???

alright. Thanks guys for your help. We got 38 users on our BES. We could probably do it at lunch. But i got a feeling my boss is going to want to wait and do it on a weekend, just in case anything blows up.
