Ordered my open top (sti) case in british tan from fortte last night and followed up with Salo this morning regarding customization. I have to say that this is some pretty impressive customer service!
I'm looking forward to getting the case. THough it seems that some of the options that were included at no charge previously are now available at an extra charge. I have no problem with that though, the add ons are reasonably priced. I ended up paying about $50 for my case including shipping. Transit time is approximately 2-3 weeks according to my invoice, however it seems that most were recieving theres in about 10 days.

What are the 6 different clip options?

I contact Fortte about an open face leather clip with sleeper mode to enable the holster profiles. We'll see!

Like I said, add one of the vertical cases to your cart on their web site and you'll be asked to choose one of the six clips.

There's even pictures.

For those of you ordering the fortte cases, here's a tip.. When selecting colours, it may be difficult to visualize with the swatches on the "available colours" page; however if you add an item to your cart, you can see the colour options with "previews" thatbetter illustrate what it will look like in your selected style.

BTW last time I spelled colours with a "u" someone kept commenting about it, so this time please spare me.

Ok, I'm a newbie so go easy on me but, what do you guys mean when you say "Sleeper function" when your talking about cases. I know it has something to do with the magnet in the case but that's about the extent of my knowledge.

Thanks!

The sleeper functions puts the blackberry into a sort of suspended animation state which helps conserve battery life, Messages and phone calls will get through depending on your profile settings for in and out of holster conditions. You could set it so as to when it is in the holster it is mute or ringing or vibrating or a combination of the two to help you be aware of a message or call.

Dear John,
Thank you for your message.
The 'sleep' function is located on the lower 1/3 part of the back of the BB 8700.
The clip is usually on the top 1/3 part of the case, therefore the clip itself can not activate the magnet, also it needs to be on a certain place to work, if it moves it will not work.
What you are suggesting is a specific solution to the problem that could be done by the correct design & tooling and is very expensive to make, (mold).
The problem is that the market is not large enough to support this venture.
I am still researching other options to see if we can come up with a solution.
Regards.
Peter

Ok....I've been reading through this long thread on and off all day (here at work). And been following every link and looking at all the cases based on what I'd like. I'm planning to get the 8700 for TMO when it comes out in a few weeks (like it's *supposed* to). Bear in mind that means I don't have an 8700 (or any BB) yet either...so am not quite familiar with everything about it.

The Krusell KRUSBLACK8700C case is the one that looks closest to what I want.
http://www.extremepda.com/Merchant2/...KRUSBLACK8700C

Does anybody know anything about this case or have actually used it and can give me their opinions?

Can anybody answer a question or two?
1. Is the cutout on the back for the speaker? Does it have cutout for speaker? I'm really paranoid about not hearing it...as I have a slight hearing issue already.

2. Which of those Krusell clips would be best from anybody with experience? ("swivel clip" looks most appealing to me).

3. Are these screen protectors worth getting or just a gimmick? Is there a screen scratching or other problem for me to worry about?

1. Based on this image there certainly appears to be a cut out for the speaker. With the newest OS the 8700's ringtone is pretty loud. You can always use the vibrate and ring option as well.

2. Personally I prefer Krusell's Swivel Clip.

3. I definetly think you need a screen protector. There are many good ones to choose from.

I thought that looked like a speaker cutout...but I wasn't 100% sure if that was where the speaker was located.

Thanks for suggestions.

Do you recommend any particular screen protector?

You can check out my review of "The Best Skins Ever" here:

If you want something nice and easy go with the Screen Patronous product. They are inexpensive and work well.

[QUOTE=lgreenberg]Personal choice whether you like a flap on top or not.

Fortte offers six different belt clip options.

Add one of the vertical pouches to your cart and you'll see them all.

/QUOTE]

so do you recommend the Fortte from all the cases you have tested? I hate flaps so I was thinking about the open face model with a screen protector. I just canceled my Vaja order after reading your review. WHEW!!!

When you say you don't want a flap do you mean the flap at the top or the one that covers the entire screen?

Sorry.....I do not like the cases that have a flap that comes over the phone. The one's I have seen for the 8700 flip up and seem to get in the way. I was thinking about the vaja case that did not have the flp but after reading your review I canceled my order.

I'd look at either Fortte's line up or the OEM Pouch from RIM.
