Default software/ firmware update

Please Login to Remove!

Hey guys,
Until recently I was an iPhone user, I have no idea about the device software/ firmware..
I saw that the Blackberry desktop software saying I can upgrade my BB firmware to version 5(or so..) is it recommended? And beside, if I will upgrade, I'm afraid the phone's sim unlock will be cancelled. Is it really working like that? how can find out if my phone is originally sim unlocked?

If your phone is unlocked, upgrading the OS will not change that.

Unlike an iPhone, updating the software does not relock a phone.
