Default Two John Smiths

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all, I was wondering if anybody has came across this issue. We have two john smiths in our company (one that has a blackberry and one that does not). When a look up is done from one of our blackberries (BES V4.0 on Domino) it finds both John Smiths but they are both displayed with out their middle initials.

So from a user point of view it’s hard from them to differentiate between the two. Is there a way to add middle initials to the look up? (They are already showing in lotus) or is their another way I could customise their display name on the BES?

No I don't think so. You could mess with the outlook client on the BES server (if it's installed anything like GW that is). With GW, if you make adjustments to the client address book display options, it is reflected in the lookups on the devices.

Thanks bfrye I thought this might be one that’s not resolvable, its Lotus Domino we are running on here anyway.

I have setup the users on Lotus with a middle initial so they are John J and John C but this doesn't seem to be showing on blackberry.

You can try moving the middle initial from a dedicated field in the Lotus Domino to the first name / last name fields.
Our solution for this was to add the department in brackets in the last name field so we have some thing like: First Name: John Last Name: Smith (mkt)...

Simply go to the Person doc on the users' mail server....and from the "Basic" tab section -> "username field" add an entry for the user with the middle initial. You'll have to "bounce" the mail router for the change to take effect. Test mail routing for the user with the "new middle" initial. Obviously you'll have to sych the address book with the replica on the BES server. Mail routing in domino is easily observed from the address book on the server. To view how the mail router looks at the users for mail delivery....open the address book on the server (mail server) in this way ...Press Ctrl+Shft and open. The view displays the hidden items.
